Endorse incumbent library trustees

We are pleased that Austin Sarat and Tamson Ely are running for re-election to the Jones Library Board of Trustees.

Austin is a longtime resident of Amherst and a distinguished legal studies professor. Tamson had a career as a librarian, working mostly as the library director at a community college. They both bring considerable experience, common sense and leadership to their work as trustees.

Austin serves as president of the board. His fostering of positive and cooperative relationships among the library director, the Friends of Jones Library and the board has resulted in the judicious use of library resources and the maintenance of, and in some cases, expansion of service to different groups of library patrons and to the community as a whole.

Tamson brings her training in library science and work experience to the trustees. She is chair of the board’s Building and Facilities Committee, represents the trustees on the Joint Capital Planning Committee and is familiar with the capital needs of the library and the town.

Their visionary leadership in supporting and advocating for the renovation and the expansion of the Jones Library will serve the community for the next century. They and the other trustees were successful in securing approval of a Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners grant that will bring much needed change to the Jones, including making the library uniformly accessible and improving the space and services for our community. Their efforts to preserve and expand the library endowment will help secure library services for future generations of Amherst residents.

We hope that you will join us on March 27 in voting for Austin Sarat and Tamson Ely for re-election to the Jones Library Board of Trustees.
