AMHERST — The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art will expand its adult art classes thanks to a second-year grant from Aroha Philanthropies, offering courses to people 55 and over in Amherst, Granby and South Hadley.
“We are thrilled to introduce a new creative writing class, and take three Create with The Carle! art classes offsite into new spaces,” said Meg Nicoll, an art educator at the museum. “Working with our partner organizations in the community, we are able to expand the program and offer even more opportunities for individuals to get involved and explore materials and ideas through art.”
A printmaking course taught by Joyce Silverstone of Zea Mays Printmaking will begin Tuesday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and continue for eight weeks at Applewood of Amherst. Registration begins Monday at a cost of $72.50 for Eric Carle Museum members and $90 for non-members.
A collage-making class caught by artist B.Z. Reily begins Wednesday, April 25, at the South Hadley Senior Center, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The course runs for eight weeks and is free to South Hadley residents.
In the fall, a bookmaking course will begin Sept. 7 at the Granby Senior Center, and a creative writing course begins at The Eric Carle Museum on Oct. 15.
Each course will include a visit to museum and a behind-the-scenes tour with Museum staff. A culminating event celebrating the work of all four classes will take place in December.
