Thanksgiving greetings to all our friends and neighbors.
In the next several weeks the mail box will include requests for money from many organizations. If you are thankful for what you have and are able, consider making a donation to the charity of your choice, or volunteer your time and talents to help others. Thanks.

The faith communities that hold fairs use the proceeds to help others. The South Amherst Congregational Church Sleigh Bell Fair is Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. while the First Congregational Church on Main Street begins its Cranberry Fair at 9 a.m. Both have a wide range of items, such as collectibles, toys and clothing, as well as baked goods and lunch.
Check the listings for the many fairs in the area.

I saw Pete Rogers at the Veterans Day Ceremony held in Town Hall because of the cold.
He said the Unitarian Society is holding a Talking Circle on “The Moral Injury of War” Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Vietnam vets Pete Rogers and Gene Herman will moderate the event that provides “a safe confidential place to share our stories together” for combatants, non-combatants, their families, friends and the community. It’s free.

I got a call last week to publicize the need for volunteers for AARP’s local TaxAide group that helps prepare tax returns for Amherst area residents. I was told the volunteers helped 250 people last year. It is a very popular service.
Basic computer skills and some experience in filing your own tax return are helpful, according to the email. The time commitment is one morning per week for the ten-week tax season, and training will be offered. Call Mike Quinlan at 413-203-1281, or email jintssb51@yahoo.com for details.

Dona Motts and Penny Nolan lead a Gentle Fitness exercise class at the Bangs Center Mon., Weds. and Fri. from 11-11:30 a.m. The exercises are done standing or sitting and set to music. A $1 donation is suggested but Penny said people are welcome without paying. They just want folks to keep active.

The Friends of the Jones Library will hold a Holiday Book Sale Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library. While some have been previously owned, they are in very good condition.
