In regards to John Fox’s Nov. 17 guest column (“Responds to column opposing Town Meeting”), the mansplaining of women’s participation and democracy speaks for itself.
I only want to ask that when a title is used for me, it be the correct one. That title would be Dr. or Professor.
To be clear, I use my first name in the classroom and among colleagues. In general, I prefer to avoid any titles that invoke gender, marital status or hierarchy. But to mistitle a woman with a doctorate is part of a much larger dynamic of misogyny and privilege, one which too often marks debate in even the most progressive of towns, and which we all have a responsibility to root out.
