AMHERST

A 34-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker following a traffic stop on Pine Street Aug. 20 at 2:48 a.m., police said.

A 45-year-old Belchertown man was arrested Aug. 19 at 8:10 p.m. on Bay Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and speeding, police said.

A 31-year-old Southampton, Pennsylvania resident will be summoned to court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration following a traffic stop on Cottage Street Aug. 19 at 1:41 a.m., police said.

A 25-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stay within marked lanes following a traffic stop on North Pleasant Street Aug. 16 at 7:10 p.m., police said.

A 52-year-old Springfield man will be summoned to court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license as the result of being an habitual traffic offender following a traffic stop on Belchertown Road Aug. 16 at 2:18 p.m., police said.

A 32-year-old woman from Mount Warner Road, Hadley, was arrested Aug. 14 at 8:28 a.m. on College Street on charges of using a motor vehicle without authority and failing to return leased property after she didn’t return a rental vehicle to a Springfield rental company, police said.

FRIDAY, AUG. 14

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:07 a.m. – Police located a man screaming while walking on North Pleasant Street after getting a call about him possibly being in distress. Officers determined the man was singing and was unaware of the issues he was causing.

BREAK-INS

8:36 a.m. – Police are investigating a break-in to the American Legion on Amity Street in which an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

12:56 p.m. – A bat flying around inside an office at Town Hall was removed by police.

TRAFFIC

5:28 a.m. – A newspaper delivery driver was issued a warning after traveling in the wrong lane on Triangle Street.

6:39 p.m. – An erratic vehicle on South East Street was stopped. Police determined the driver had dropped his cellphone while driving and was not impaired.

TUESDAY, AUG. 15

NOISE COMPLAINTS

1:50 p.m. – Beeping sounds coming from Lessey Street were determined to be made by construction equipment at the Marsh House on the Amherst College campus. Amherst College was notified.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

11:21 a.m. – Police took a complaint about a loud crowing rooster in the area of Deepwoods Drive.

TRAFFIC

4:02 a.m. – Police issued a warning to a newspaper delivery driver traveling in the wrong land on North East Street.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:31 a.m. – Police sent people on their way who were talking in a vehicle parked at Groff Park.

12:47 a.m. – A man sleeping in a van parked near Puffer’s Pond told police he is homeless and living in the vehicle. He was sent on his way.

5:07 p.m. – People standing on top of the dam at Puffer’s Pond were advised to get off it for their own safety.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

7:28 p.m. – An Amherst woman reported she received several strange and annoying text messages. Police offered her advice on stopping the texts from coming.

DISTURBANCES

9:12 p.m. – Police kept the peace at a Bridge Street home where a man was seen throwing boots at the home. He told police he was upset after a woman removed him from the residence when he complained about her cooking.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

1:47 a.m. – A fire extinguisher was found set up on Chestnut Street near the entrance to the middle school. Police turned the extinguisher over to the fire department.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

3:21 a.m. – A verbal warning was issued by police to an East Hadley Road resident watching loud YouTube videos.

11:09 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Grantwood Drive residents talking loudly and playing loud music.

TRAFFIC

8:41 p.m. – Police issued a warning to the driver of a vehicle that drove on the pedestrian walkway between Kellogg Avenue and the Boltwood parking garage.

THURSDAY, AUG. 17

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

2:09 p.m. – A man on a downtown street holding a sign with threats directed against the media was advised to stay on the sidewalk.

4:33 p.m. – Police were called to Rolling Green Apartments for a suspicious truck displaying a Confederate flag. Officers determined there were no violations or crimes caused by the truck driver.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:07 a.m. – A resident was advised to block incoming texts that were making threats against her and were sexual in nature.

DISTURBANCES

1:04 p.m. – A man created a scene after grabbing food with his bare hands from the hot bar at Big Y Supermarket and being warned about his actions. He was located a short time later and issued a trespass notice. Big Y management told police the food was thrown out because of sanitary problems caused by his actions.

11:21 p.m. – Youths causing trouble at an Amherst convenience store, including cursing at a clerk and tipping over trash receptacles and cigarette containers, were identified and sent on their way.

LARCENY

9:04 p.m. – Police took a report from a woman who said someone stole $200 from her mother.

VANDALISM

7:08 a.m. – An Old Farm Road resident reported two large planters on her porch were thrown into her swimming pool. In July, the same resident reported suspicious activity in which boots left on her porch were stolen and orange traffic barrels taken from a nearby road project were placed on her property.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

10:18 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to people talking loudly at a Grantwood Drive home.

FRIDAY, AUG. 18

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

4:18 p.m. – A suspicious man in a vehicle parked outside Hillel House on North Pleasant Street was not located.

9:20 p.m. – College Street residents reported returning home and finding the front door open and their cat outside. Police determined there was no break-in and the door likely wasn’t secured.

DISTURBANCES

10:15 a.m. – Police kept the peace between a tenant and landlord at a North Amherst home. The tenant will be moving out Sept. 1.

10:50 a.m. – Police found homeless people in North Amherst arguing over possession of a gift card for a supermarket. Officers determined the man with the card was just holding it for safe keeping.

12:27 p.m. – A woman yelling at residents at Rolling Green Apartments was determined to be the mother of son who was moving out. Police separated the people involved in the argument.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

1:07 p.m. – Two bags of marijuana located at a University Drive business were turned over to police for destruction.

LARCENY

4:43 p.m. – A shoplifter who left Big Y Supermarket on University Drive without paying for a roast chicken and other items totaling $50 was located and issued a trespass notice.

VANDALISM

3:17 p.m. – Graffiti was put on a scoreboard and building at Community Field.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

2:57 p.m. – Both vehicles were towed following a two-car accident with no personal injuries on Butterfield Terrace, police said.

SATURDAY, AUG. 19

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

7:33 p.m. – A 3-year-old girl eating pizza in a vehicle parked on Kellogg Avenue locked out her mother. Police officers who responded convinced the child to unlock the vehicle, which she did.

DISTURBANCES

5:50 p.m. – Roommates arguing at a North Amherst apartment were calmed down by police.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

10:27 a.m. – A calf loose on Pine Street was returned to its nearby field.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

8:13 pm. – A two-car accident with possible injuries occurred at the intersection of South East Street and Station Road, police said. No further details about the crash were available.

TRAFFIC

11:37 a.m. – Police assisted the Conservation Department remove a tree that fell across State Street near Puffer’s Pond.

SUNDAY, AUG. 20

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:13 a.m. – A Colonial Village resident reported a neighbor whispered threats at her. Police found no eviednece that happened.

6:03 p.m. – A man punching and grabbing the arm of another person on North Pleasant Street checked out OK when police determined he is a new homeless person in the community getting acquainted with other people living on the street.

DISTURBANCES

7:51 p.m. – A man holding a sign in front of Bank of America on South Pleasant Street told police he was being heckled. No problems were discovered.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:24 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Puffton Village residents playing loud music.

TRAFFIC

2:08 a.m. – Police stopped an Uber vehicle on East Pleasant Street and issued a warning to the driver after the vehicle went around orange cones and a Jersey barrier blocking access to the area where a roundabout is being built.
