Two pioneering women artists from across time will join forces this weekend at Amherst College for a concert featuring jazz and spoken word. Working in conjunction with the Emily Dickinson International Society and Emily Dickinson Museum, award-winning soprano saxophonist and composer Jane Ira Bloom will present her 80-minute suite of compositions that alternate between jazz-quartet music and fragments from Dickinson’s writing.
The concert will take place tonight, August 11 at 8 p.m. at Amherst College’s Buckley Recital Hall located at 53 College Street. Tickets are $18 and will be available at the door starting at 7:30 p.m. For more information, contact Elizabeth Bradley at 413-542-2034.
Enjoy a family-friendly comedy experience at the Eric Carle Museum courtesy of Happier Valley Comedy. The Happier FAMILY Comedy Show is an hour-long improvisational comedy show created right on the spot based on audience members’ suggestions and participation. The show is interactive and geared towards children ages 5 to 12.
The show will take place on the third Saturday of every month beginning on August 19 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 125 W. Bay Road in Amherst. Tickets are available at the door for $5 for children and $10 for adults, with free admission for toddlers under five years old.
Hope and Feathers Framing and Gallery will host an artist reception later this month for its latest exhibit. The show features the work of Kim Carlino, an Easthampton-based artist whose work mines the space between painting and drawing in order to explore the relationships between color, geometry, line, form and design. The show is entitled “Visions of a Fragmented Landscape, Part I,” with Part II to go up at Deerfield’s von Auersperg Gallery in November.
The artist reception will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23 at 318 Main Street in Amherst.
The exhibit will be on display through September 2. For regular gallery hours and more information, visit hopeandfeathersframing.com.
