Agrees that crosswalks need repairs

I wholeheartedly agree with a letter writer’s comments regarding the crosswalks (and roads) in Amherst (“Starbucks and the streets of Amherst,” May 12).

Each time I use our crosswalks I shake my head and remark to my partner about the poor installation and dangerous conditions that started from week one, began breaking down at week two, only to be poorly repaired in week three. An exaggeration I know, but not by much. Unless something like this is going to be done well, it shouldn’t be done at all.

I suggest the next time the budget allows for crosswalk repair, someone take a ride to Northampton or Springfield. They have asphalt roads with brightly painted crosswalks. Works well, looks nice, and is safe to walk on. Or is that too simple of a solution?
