Alexander Z. Paterson, 24, of Autumn Lane, was arrested May 28 at 11:29 p.m. on West Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

A 46-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on a charge of assault and battery after she allegedly grabbed another woman and shoved her during a dispute about loud music between neighbors in North Amherst May 27 at 9:59 a.m., police said.

Clinton Breton, 47, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested May 27 at 8:20 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on a warrant for charges of assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct related to a March incident, police said.

A 25-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding following a traffic stop on East Pleasant Street May 26 at 11:31 p.m., police said.

A 74-year-old West Springfield woman will be summoned to court on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a traffic stop on College Street May 26 at 9:47 a.m., police said.

A 21-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a traffic stop on West Pomeroy Lane May 25 at 9:15 a.m., police said.

A 54-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on a charge of violating the town’s noise bylaw after he repeatedly banged on the wall to a North Amherst home to disturb a neighbor May 23 at 9:36 p.m., police said.

Michael Brayton, 20, of North Auburn, was arrested May 23 at 1:10 a.m. on Amity Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

Devin R. Reade, 37, of Colrain, was arrested May 23 at 9:58 a.m. at the Haigis Mall on a charge of trespassing, police said.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

10:17 a.m. – Police assisted administrators at the South Amherst campus of the high school after three teenagers left the property. All three were located, including two who returned to school, and their parents were notified about their actions.

DISTURBANCES

6:07 p.m. – A man reported being struck by a vehicle in a downtown parking lot. Police determined the man was involved in child custody issues with his wife and that the two should work out their issues in probate court.

LARCENY

8:25 p.m. – A woman who paid for a $10 bottle of Exclusiv Vodka left a downtown package store without paying for a Three Olives Elvis Presley Coconut Water Vodka bottle valued at $15.99. Police are trying to identify her.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

8:10 p.m. – Police advised a tree removal company on Farmington Road to stop its work for the night after getting complaints about loud tractors and saws.

 

TUESDAY, MAY 23

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

11:11 a.m. – Police assisted a female bicyclist get a chain back onto her bicycle after it fell off while shifting gears on South Pleasant Street.

FIGHTS

2:18 p.m. – A school bus driver pulled over on Main Street after two girls on board got into a fight over one wearing too much perfume and the other opening a window. The altercation ended when police got there and the matter was turned over to school officials.

4:07 p.m. – A vehicle parked in the Big Y Supermarket parking lot on University Drive sustained minor damage when it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, police said.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 24

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

11:02 a.m. – People dumping trash in a Dumpster on Boltwood Walk were not located.

1:16 p.m. – A Main Street property owner reported a tent was set up without permission.

11:17 p.m. – The odor of a decaying animal was reported coming from a South Amherst home. Police examined the apartment with the landlord and determined the smell was caused by mildew in the carpet.

11:56 p.m. – Men on the porch of a Montague Road building who may have been trying to get inside while an employee was inside fled before police got there.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:43 p.m. – A woman visiting relatives at Village Park who was reported missing was located safely at a downtown restaurant.

2:54 p.m. – Police advised a woman concerned about tree cutting on Stony Hill Road that the removal of trees was approved by a vote of a condominium association and her only recourse was pursuing a civil case in court.

3:59 p.m. – People attending the Not Bread Alone meal were assisted in resolving issues between them.

DISTURBANCES

4:25 p.m. – A man walking on North Pleasant Street near the Newman Center said another man confronted him and yelled obscenities. Police determined the incident began because of problems between the men’s children.

9:45 p.m. – Police responded to Olympia Oaks for an argument between a man and woman. Both denied there was anything physical during their altercation.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

1:54 a.m. – Loud banging at Kendrick Place Apartments was coming from an apartment where the resident was moving out. He agreed to cease the activity for the night.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

12:12 p.m. – The animal welfare officer assisted Sunset Avenue residents with a cat stuck under the porch.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 25

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

6:15 p.m. – A man who had done yard work at a South Amherst home allegedly knocked on the door and asked a woman for a bowl of rice. When the homeowner returned home, the man was exiting from the back lawn and was advised he is no longer welcome on the property.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

5:45 p.m. – Police provided advice to an Amherst woman who is being harassed by her boyfriend’s former girlfriend. The harassment has included knocking on the door to her home and cursing at her.

LARCENY

9:34 a.m. – Police are investigating the theft of $1,100 worth of items, including packages of Rogaine hair regrowth product and Oral B replacement toothbrushes from the CVS Pharmacy on North Pleasant Street.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

8:08 a.m. – A dog observed at Brandywine Apartments eating trash from a Dumpster was not located by police.

10:47 a.m. – A State Street resident was issued a warning about a barking dog at the home.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 26

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

3:40 p.m. – A man sitting on Main Street with a toy gun was advised to use better judgment after startling passers-by. He gave the toy gun to police to dispose the following day at 1:16 p.m. when he was exercising in the West Cemetery and scared another person walking by the graves.

LARCENY

4:23 p.m. – A bicycle was reported stolen from a bike rack on South Pleasant Street.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

10:51 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to a resident at The Brook listening to a loud radio.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 27

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

11:22 a.m. – Police identified the person responsible for dumping tree debris on Carriage Lane. He was advised to remove the garbage.

11:43 p.m. – A Southpoint Apartments resident called police to the complex after two people were engaged in sexual activity in a vehicle. The couple fled before police got there.

6:15 p.m. – Police responded to the Notch for two women reported lost while hiking. 

DISTURBANCES

12:54 a.m. – Two men causing a scene near a downtown bar, and who threw a bottle into the road, were identified and warned about their behavior.

8:12 p.m. – Police warned a man who was riding his bicycle on South Pleasant Street and accosted a woman walking her dog.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

7:04 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to teenagers and their parents being loud in the parking lot at the University Lodge.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 28

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:22 a.m. – Police assisted a Village Park woman located her teenage son, who intentionally left the residence to hang out with friends and then didn’t return home.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

4:13 p.m. – An unattended red backpack on South Pleasant Street near the Amherst Golf Club was recovered by police.

10:04 p.m. – Police assisted firefighters extinguish a small bonfire on West Street.
