Five College Learning in Retirement will hold its fall preview, May 7, from 2-4 p.m. at the Smith College Student Center. Those interested in Learning in Retirement can speak with the seminar leaders and other members. Refreshments will be served.

Wendy Kohler of Amherst, sent me news about a benefit concert for the A Better Chance program. It will be held May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church. The program includes the Amherst Area Gospel Choir, the ARHS Chorale and the Amherst College Gospel Choir. Suggested donation is $20.

Sam Hannigan, the co-chair of the Amherst Irish Association, sent me news about an essay contest with the theme, “Considering Ireland: What Interests Me and Why,” for area undergraduates. The essay has to be submitted between May 20 and July 12. The first prize for the Margaret Mahar Award is a round trip to Ireland.
