AMHERST — Police are investigating a series of shoplifting incidents in which food, energy drinks, razors and deodorant were reported stolen from Amherst stores.
So far, only one person is facing charges related to the thefts, Detective Jamie Reardon said. A 25-year-old Shutesbury woman will be summoned to court on a charge of shoplifting after she allegedly attempted to leave Big Y Supermarket, 175 University Drive, without paying for a rotisserie chicken, a garden salad and a half-gallon of milk at 8:07 p.m. Friday, Reardon said.
When the woman was spotted by store employees trying to take the items, she abandoned them, but was caught on surveillance camera and identified.
At 3:06 p.m. Friday, management at Big Y reported that a man fled without paying for $63.56 worth of Red Bull energy drinks. The man may have left in a vehicle with New Hampshire license plates, based on surveillance video.
Management at CVS Pharmacy, 76 North Pleasant St., reported at 9:02 a.m. Sunday that someone left the store without paying for $90 worth of Old Spice deodorant. The person responsible has not yet been identified, Reardon said.
Meanwhile, the shoplifting of $714 worth of razor blades from the CVS at 175 University Drive Thursday afternoon remains under investigation.
