AMHERST

Paul R. Scace, 55, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested March 26 at 6:15 p.m. at a Main Street location on a charge of assault and battery on a disabled person after he allegedly shoved a man in a wheelchair, causing the man to fall out from the wheelchair and strike his head on the floor, police said. 

A 59-year-old Leeds man will be summoned to court on a charge of possession of a class B substance after he was found in possession of Oxycodone pills while walking along South Pleasant Street and yelling March 26 at 2:56 a.m., police said.

A 17-year-old Amherst boy is being summoned to court on charges of larceny over $250 and malicious destruction of property over $250 after an incident in which he allegedly stole a necklace from his mother March 25 at 3:26 p.m., police said.

Ellisha M. Walker, 23, of North Pleasant Street, was was arrested March 25 at 12:46 p.m. on North Pleasant Street on a warrant, police said.

John M. Griffith, 29, of Summer Street, was arrested March 22 at 6:48 a.m. on Meadow Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, police said. Griffith’s vehicle had earlier been observed with flat tires after hitting a curb on Amity Street.

Brandon A. Hernandez, 20, of River Road, Sunderland, was arrested March 21 at 12:56 a.m. on Cowls Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and operating a motor vehicle with no inspection sticker, police said.

Joshua Marcotte, 21, of Chelmsford, was arrested March 26 at 12:29 a.m. on Sunset Avenue on a charge of disorderly conduct, police said.

Antonio Nixon, 26, of Springfield, was arrested March 25 at 2:41 a.m. on Massachusetts Avenue on a warrant, police said.

4:22 p.m. – Three people causing problems while loitering in front of a downtown store were sent on their way.

10:31 p.m. – A man consuming a beer while near a downtown bus stop was warned and sent on his way.

8:38 p.m. – Amherst Police assisted Hadley Police in searching for a missing woman.

 

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

5 p.m. – A man who went to a Columbia Drive residence and demanded money for a utility company  and personal information was not located.

DISTURBANCES

12:52 p.m. – A man yelling at employees at Town Hall was calm when police got there. He was escorted from the building and advised not to return.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

5:43 p.m. – A dog found at a South Pleasant Street farm was returned to its owner.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

10:41 a.m. – Amherst Police assisted Northampton Police in searching for a hit-and-run vehicle.

 

THURSDAY, MARCH 23

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:27 a.m. – Lights were found inside a closed Belchertown Road business. Police identified no problems at the location.

1:27 p.m. – A suspicious incident was repoprted at Jones Library. No further information was available.

10:52 p.m. – People loitering in vehicles at Mount Pollux Conservation Area were warned the site closes at dark and were sent on their way.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

11:48 a.m. – A woman asked for police assistance after she opened the door to her vehicle and the wind pushed the door into another vehicle, causing it to create a ding in the other vehicle.

6:13 p.m. – A disagreement between roommates over possession of a pet rabbit reported to police was resolved when the roommate who took the animal away to nurse it back to health agreed she would return the rabbit.

LARCENY

1:03 p.m. – Police are investigating the theft of $714 worth of Gillette razor blades from the CVS Pharmacy on University Drive. A man wearing a Boston Bruins shirt was seen stuffing boxes into his coat before fleeing, according to police.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

8:26 a.m. – A parked vehicle’s rear bumper and trunk were damaged when struck by a hit-and-run vehicle at Colonial Village, police said. The vehicle owner suspects a former spouse might be responsible.

3:40 p.m. – One vehicle was towed following a two-car accident with no personal injuries on Meadow Street, police said.

6:46 p.m. – A vehicle on Kellogg Avenue was damaged when it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, police said.

9:15 p.m. – A deer was struck and killed on South East Street by a vehicle that sustained more than $1,000 in damage. Police notified the Department of Public Works to remove the animal.

TRAFFIC

10:25 p.m. – Police issued warnings to several Uber drivers in downtown Amherst, including one who was given a ticket for blocking a travel lane and a crosswalk.

 

FRIDAY, MARCH 24

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

2:45 p.m. – A downtown business receiving numerous calls from a man being evaluated at a hospital was advised to block the number to prevent additional calls.

8:12 p.m. – A man refusing to leave the First Congergational Church agreed to go on his way when police got there.

DISTURBANCES

1:36 p.m. – A man causing a disturbance in a downtown restaurant fled before police got there. When he was located walking nearby, he was warned not to go back to the restaurant.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

3:15 p.m. – A vehicle stolen from Hampden was recovered in a North Amherst tow yard.

LARCENY

1:19 a.m. – A black Patagonia coat was stolen from a patron at a downtown bar. The man told police he took off the coat about two hours earlier and it was gone when he left the establishment.

5:20 p.m. – Police are assisting an Amherst investment company’s bank in investigating the theft of $248,000 that was taken during a wire transfer.

VANDALISM

9:14 a.m. – Graffiti written in crayon in a room at the First Congregational Church on Main Street, and directed toward staff members, was reported to police.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

3:13 a.m. – A deer was struck by a vehicle on Montague Road, police said.

TRAFFIC

11:13 p.m. – Several Uber drivers on North Pleasant Street near the downtown bars were issued warnings for parking violations, including double-parking and blocking the bicycle lane. Another driver was stopped a short time earlier with the hazard lights on.

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 25

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

10:09 p.m. – A man standing in the middle of North Pleasant Street was given a courtesy escort to the Craig’s Place homeless shelter.

DISTURBANCES

10:18 p.m. – A disturbance reported at Mill Valley Estates was actually an argument neighbors heard from a loud television.

VANDALISM

4:15 p.m. – A mailbox at a Flat Hills Road residence was dented. Police have no suspects for the vandalism.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

1:16 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to McClellan Street residents holding a party with about 60 guests.

10:40 p.m. – A 21-year-old Moorestown, New Jersey man was issued a $300 ticket for violating the town’s noise bylaw after police responded to a party with 30 to 40 guests in an apartment at the Trolley Barn on Cowls Road.

TRAFFIC

12:08 a.m. – A large party breaking up on Sunderland Road caused people to spill into the road. The road was cleared a short time later when people were picked up by Uber drivers.

10:21 p.m. – A mattress dumped in the middle of East Hadley Road was put to the side of the road for the Department of Public Works to pick up.

 

SUNDAY, MARCH 26

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:23 a.m. – A man urinating behind an East Pleasant Street business was warned about his actions and sent on his way.

9:53 a.m. – Police found a woman sitting next to a North Pleasant Street building’s vent to stay warm. She was advised the building is private property and agreed to leave.

4:49 p.m. – Police took a report of a man urinating against the side of a downtown building. He fled before police got there.

DISTURBANCES

1:45 a.m. – Police spoke to an intoxicated woman outside the downtown bars who attemtped to chase down a man who she claimed beat up her boyfriend. She was turned over to the custody of a friend.

12:29 p.m. – Police kept the peace between a customer and an employee at a North Amherst tow yard.

BREAK-INS

9:19 p.m. – A break-in was reported at an Emily Lane home, but police found no evidence anything was stolen or an intruder got inside.

ASSAULTS

11:34 a.m. – A man with a black eye came to the police station and reported the injury was suffered when he was assaulted the previous night at a downtown bar. Police are looking into the matter.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:17 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to North Hadley Road residents holding a party with about 150 guests.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

1:29 p.m. – Both vehicles were towed following a two-car accident with no personal injuries on Belchertown Road near the entrance to the transfer station, police said.

9:37 p.m. – The driver of a vehicle told police she bumped into a pedestrian crossing Main Street a short time earlier, but the pedestrian fled before she could speak to him. Police are investigating.
