A 20-year-old Belchertown man will be summoned to court on charges of receiving stolen property under $250, a tablet computer, and possession of a class A drug, heroin, following a police investigation into an incident on North Pleasant Street completed Jan. 8 at 10:14 p.m., police said. Police determined the computer was taken from a Holyoke resident.
Peter J. Sheremeta, 20, of Belchertown, was arrested Jan. 7 at 3:12 p.m. on North Pleasant Street in front of the downtown bars on a charge of disorderly conduct after he was observed pushing and shoving another man and then struck the second man in the face, police said.
A 39-year-old Belchertown woman will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and making a red turn on red where prohibited following a traffic stop on South East Street Jan. 6 at 10:41 p.m., police said.
A 30-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on a charge of shoplifting after allegedly taking items from a downtown Amherst store Jan. 5 at 1:54 p.m., police said.
A 74-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on a charge of larceny over $250 after allegedly taking a cellphone during an incident at an Amherst restaurant on the morning of Dec. 31, police said.

2:06 p.m. – A man with Alzheimer’s missing from a Station Road home was found walking on a Belchertown street. He told police he was enjoying a walk, knew where he was and planned to return home a short time later.

2:04 p.m. – A vehicle went off Meadow Street, and a person inside the vehicle may have been injured, according to police. No further details were available.
2:54 p.m. – Police issued a ticket to the driver of a vehicle parked improperly on South Pleasant Street after another vehicle attempting to park struck it.

10:11 p.m. – Main Street residents reported someone may have opened the door to their shed in the back yard while they were away. Police are investigating.
DISTURBANCES
12:17 a.m. – Police responded to the homeless shelter for a man causing a disturbance outside. He was given a courtesy escort to downtown Amherst to retrieve his bike, and planned to leave for Northampton.
BREAK-INS
8:23 p.m. – Police are investigating a break-in at a Northampton Road home in which a window was smashed and a large bottle of Belvedere vodka was stolen. A small nip bottle was left behind by the intruder.

7:04 a.m. – One driver was issued a citation for failure to use care in stopping following a two-car accident at the intersection of East Pleasant Street and Clark Hill Road, police said. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and there was also heavy damage to a telephone pole, according to police.
8:24 a.m. – A driver who failed to use care in starting caused a minor two-car accident with no personal injuries on Belchertown Road, police said.

9:17 a.m. – A 9-year-old child was allegedly assaulted by another youth on a school bus the previous day, and went to the hospital to be examined. School officials are handling the matter, according to police.

1:45 p.m. – Police provided advice to Amherst parents concerned their daughter had revealed too much personal information in responding to texts she received on her cellphone.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
11:09 p.m. – A Rosemary Street resident reported three suspicious men used snowblowers to clear her driveway of snow. The men fled before police got there.

12:43 a.m. – A woman at a downtown bar called police to report money was stolen from her purse. Police found no evidence of a theft, determining from a manager that the woman said she would not report the theft so long as she was allowed to continue drinking.

1:42 p.m. – A vehicle went off a snow-covered South East Street, ending up on its passenger side and trapping its driver and lone occupant inside, police said. Police officers and firefighters responded to free the woman.
3:36 p.m. – Both vehicles were towed from South Pleasant Street following a two-car accident with no personal injuries, police said. The crash occurred during a snowstorm that was covering roads with snow and ice.
3:47 p.m. – Police called for the tow of a vehicle that went off Stanley Street into brush alongside the road.
4:16 p.m. – A three-car accident with no personal injuries was reported on Shays Street, police said.

6:53 p.m. – Police took a report that people were trying to break-in to the Bank of America ATM near the Newman Center on North Pleasant Street. Officers responding found a homeless couple attempting to stay warm until the Craig’s Place homeless shelter opened, and determined the couple had used a Dunkin’ Donuts gift card to gain entry to the ATM.

5:42 a.m. – A girl who left a Rolling Green Apartments home at 1 a.m. was found safely at a friend’s home.
VANDALISM
1:51 p.m. – A driver’s side mirror was damaged on a vehicle parked at The Boulders. Officers were unable to determine if the damage was intentional.
2:54 p.m. – Police got a report that a window was smashed at Mill Hollow Apartments.
ANIMAL COMPLAINTS
4:38 p.m. – A Grantwood Drive woman told police she was in her yard when she was bitten on the forearm by a neighbor’s German shepherd. The animal welfare officer is investigating.
