AMHERST

Steven J. Arango, 44, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested Dec. 11 at 11:45 a.m. on Harlow Drive on charges of breaking  and entering during the daytime to commit a felony, assault and battery and intimidation of a witness, police said. Arango allegedly broke into a home where his former spouse lives, struck a man who lives there and tried to prevent the man from calling police before fleeing, police said.

A 20-year-old Bronx, New York, man, a 20-year-old Yonkers, New York, man and a 21-year-old Brooklyn, New York, man are being summoned to court on charges of violating the town’s noise bylaw after police responded to a loud party at their State Street home Dec. 10 at 1:46 a.m., police said.

Ryan C. Gordon, 21, of Douglas, was arrested Dec. 9 at 3:05 a.m. at an Amity Street home on a charge of disturbing the peace after residents reported a man loitering on their back deck and attempting to get into their bedroom, police said.

Paul LeBlanc, 34, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested at 6:17 p.m. Thursday on University Drive on a warrant. police said.

A 30-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stay within marked lanes following a traffic stop on Boltwood Avenue Dec. 5 at 3:03 p.m., police said.

A 30-year-old South Hadley woman will be summoned to court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended licnese, subsequent offense, after the vehicle she was driving slid off Middle Street and went down an embankment Dec. 5 at 8:02 a.m., police said.

Kyle J. Kitlinksi, 21, of Puffton Village, was arrested Dec. 4 at 10:30 p.m. on Montague Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, police said.

Colin J. Rosen, 22, of Hudson, was arrested Dec. 6 at 2:22 a.m. on Eastman Lane on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

10:01 p.m. – People intentionally ringing doorbells to homes on Strong Street and then fleeing were located and advised to stop the activity.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:09 p.m. – Police assisted a person who made a sale of an item at the VFW on Main Street and received payment with a check from a closed account. The buyer was contacted and agreed to cut a check from a legitimate source of funds or face charges.

DISTURBANCES

12:44 p.m. – Protesters gathered in front of the TD Bank on Triangle Street agreed to remove a banner they draped over the sign for the business.

10:40 p.m. – Police kept the peace between a boyfriend and girlfriend on Spring Street after the woman called police to report her boyfriend wouldn’t let her out from the vehicle.

8:11 p.m. – One driver was issued a citation following a two-car crash with no personal injuries on Belchertown Road, police said.

 

TUESDAY, DEC. 6

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:11 a.m. – Two men who knocked on the door to a Main Street home and then fled in a vehicle were not located.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

6:29 p.m. – A South Amherst resident reported someone has been stealing her mail and opened up credit cards in her name. Police advised her to speak to post office officials about the issue.

DISTURBANCES

10:52 p.m. – Police kept the peace at a Cherry Lane home where a former wife entered the home and got into a verbal altercation with the ex-husband’s new fiance.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

4:16 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Riverside Park Apartments residents playing loud music.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

10:36 a.m. – A loose dog found on Nelson Circle was returned to its Harlow Drive owner.

11:46 a.m. – The animal welfare officer is attempting to resolve an issue of a dog running loose on South East Street that acted aggressively toward a child and made a mess of the lawn.

9:29 a.m. – A mattress dumped in the middle of Meadow Street was removed by police.

 

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 7

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:19 a.m. – Police warned a man urinating near a building on North Pleasant Street across from Kendrick Park.

6:10 p.m. – A solicitor for a utility company going door to door at The Boulders and asking residents about their electric bills was advised to get a permit from the town to continue the activity.

DISTURBANCES

11:12 p.m. – Police calmed down a girl yelling at an Amherst home.

LARCENY

10:58 a.m. – Four tires, at a combined value of $10,000, were stolen from a 2014 Maserati Ghibli parked at Mill Valley Estates.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

9:24 p.m. – Police assisted Maplewood Farms get a horse named Cody back into a field on Belchertown Road.

TRAFFIC

9:10 a.m. – Officers assisted in pushing a vehicle that ran out of gas from a  travel lane on North Pleasant Street near the Fine Arts Center. The driver told police his gas gauge isn’t working and that he wasn’t able to tell that his gas was low.

8:09 p.m. – Police assisted firefighters with smoke at Riverside Park Apartments in North Amherst caused by a person trying to grill chicken outdoors.

 

THURSDAY, DEC. 8

FIGHTS

2:29 p.m. – Police responded to a fight involving three men at The Boulders, including one who suffered a bloody nose.

10 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Townehouse Apartments residents playing loud music.

7:38 p.m. – A small deer was struck by a vehicle on Bay Road, police said.

 

FRIDAY, DEC. 9

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:21 a.m. – A customer who spit on the floor of a North Amherst business prompted a police call, but he was calm when police got there and was not removed.

12:43 p.m. – A person caught shoplifting at a University Drive store who returned to the location was issued a trespass notice and escorted from the business.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

1:22 p.m. – Someone placed a frozen chicken on top of a vehicle parked at Mill Valley Estates. The suspects were identified and the matter was resolved without police intervention.

6:18 p.m. – Two college-age women who got locked inside the post office on North Pleasant Street, after entering the building to stay out of the cold while waiting for a bus, were freed after post office personnel were notified.

LARCENY

9:30 p.m. – A Cushman resident reported pills were stolen from her home by people she let into the house the previous day. Police are investigating.

12:56 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Townehouse Apartments residents playing loud music.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

9:47 a.m. – A dead fox in the middle of Bay Road was removed by the animal welfare officer.

7:59 p.m. – A dog barking for more than an hour while inside a vehicle parked on Boltwood Avenue checked out OK. The owners told police the dog doesn’t like to be left alone.

 

SATURDAY, DEC. 10

DISTURBANCES

1:40 a.m. – A man and woman caused a disturbance at a downtown restaurant after they were asked to leave. Police determined they were loitering inside and not buying any food.

1:50 a.m. – Police took a report of a man being punched in the face and then shoved down a staircase at a North Pleasant Street home. The victim told police he was not injured and asked officers to speak to his alleged assailant.

2:01 a.m. – A caller reported he was jumped by two men while riding in the elevator inside Kendrick Place apartments. Police are investigating the incident, which resulted in the victim suffering cuts to his face but refusing medical attention.

11:26 p.m. – Police responded to a downtown bar where a man was causing a scene after getting back inside after being removed earlier.

VANDALISM

11:16 a.m. – A rock was thrown through a fence at a Fearing Street property sometime overnight. At 11:52 a.m., a neghboring resident reported that a small shrub was split in half by vandals.

7:08 a.m. – A loose cow on Bay Road was put back in its field by its owner.

ACCIDENTS

10:25 p.m. – A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on West Street near Potwine Lane was transported by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 11

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:48 p.m. – An Amherst resident reported someone wrote words in frost on her vehicle, possibly in retaliation for issues of noise at a neighboring home.

2:05 p.m. – Police were notified that a South Amherst resident received threatening texts that referenced bringing a group of people to his home to beat him up.

DISTURBANCES

1:09 a.m. – Guests at a Meadow Street party throwing beer bottles into the street were gone when police got there.

LARCENY

1:40 p.m. – Police took a report that a man stole a credit card from a Colonial Village residence and used it to make $236.25 in purchases. Police are investigating.

4:50 p.m. – A man who attempted to steal three cases of Red Bull energy drink from a University Drive business fled before police got there.

FIGHTS

10:08 p.m. – Police assisted staff at the Craig’s Place shelter break up a fight between two men waiting in line for food. Each man will not be allowed to stay in the shelter for one night as a penalty for their behavior.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:12 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Belchertown Road residents holding a loud party with about 75 guests.

7:54 a.m. – A Colonial Village resident was issued a verbal warning for watching a loud television.
