Apologies to all who called last week and left messages on my phone. I couldn’t get a dial tone on the phone for three days. Calls could come in however. By the time the dial tone returned it was too late to call.

The only explanation I could think of was there was a power blip one day and that was obvious since the stove clock was blinking.

Ralph Faulkingham sent an email telling me about the annual Brass Concert and Carol Sing that will be held Dec. 11, at 6 p.m., at the First Congregational Church.

It was started by Ron Bell 27 years ago. The Valley Festival Brass will perform at the program that is free but donations for the Amherst Survival Center are appreciated.

Jacquie Wallace of Amherst left a message about the Amherst Area Gospel Choir that will perform Dec. 11, at 3 p.m., at Johnson Chapel at Amherst College. The concert is free but donations would be appreciated.

The mail comes with many requests for donations. You also read in the paper or hear the news about tragedies (fire, accidents) where people or businesses need help.

Consider giving what you can to something you can support. Mittens and hats are collected by area businesses and non-perishable food is always welcome. Thanks.

The Merry Maple Celebration was well attended last Friday. There was a huge line waiting for the horse rides. The TD Bank hats ran out quickly but there were many tissues and lollipops to be distributed. Many members of the UMass Marching Band wore colorful or lit outfits and many of the instruments were decorated as well. The cider from Atkins was very popular.
