AMHERST

Daniel P. Davenport, 43, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested Nov. 20 at 9:35 p.m. at the Boltwood parking garage on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and violating the town’s open container bylaw, police said.

Hannah M.N. McCollough, 20, of Palmetto, Florida, and David K. Stuart, 21, of Sutton, were both arrested on two counts of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony and larceny from a building, while Robert E. Carroll, 21, of Morris Plains, New Jersey, was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony, following an incident at Main Street apartments Nov. 19 at 10:09 p.m.

Amy Zuckerman, 62, of Alyssum Drive, was arrested Nov. 19 at 1:54 p.m. on Montague Road on a warrant from Orange District Court, police said.

Marvin A. Rivas-Ayala, 18, of The Brook, was arrested Nov. 18 at 11:03 p.m. on East Pleasant Street on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with no headlights, police said.

Marcus J. Weathersby, 21, of Ithaca, New York, was arrested Nov. 18 at 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of North Pleasant Street and Berkshire Terrace on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

A 21-year-old Missouri woman was arrested Nov. 17 at 12:38 a.m. outside a downtown bar on a charge of disorderly conduct after she grabbed an officer’s arm and pushed against another officer’s chest while interfering with a response to another police call, police said. The charges were later dismissed in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown. Her arrest came after police responded to the location about 20 minutes earlier to deal with another woman who presented a slice of pizza to a doorman at the bar, instead of an ID, and then slapped him in the face when she was told she couldn’t enter. That woman was issued a trespass order but was not arrested.

Michael Stebbins., 54, of Northfield, was arrested Nov. 16 at 5:56 p.m. on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, third offense, failure to use care in stopping and negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger following a crash at the intersection of South Pleasant Street and Northampton Road, police said.

Patricia A. McNamara, 54, of Abington, was arrested Nov. 15 at 8:45 p.m. on Amity Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger following a four-car accident in which two vehicles were towed, police said.

A 68-year-old woman will be summoned to court after allegedly illegally dumping garbage into a University Drive dumpster in an incident reported Nov. 15 at 10:08 a.m, police said.

BREAK-INS

1:25 p.m. – A laptop and keys were stolen from a vehicle parked outside a University Drive business the previous night.

ASSAULTS

2 p.m. – An incident between high school students participating in a protest about the presidential election on the Town Common and a heckler was reported to police. They were advised they could file their own charges in court.

5:07 p.m. – One vehicle was towed following a two-car crash with no personal injuries on College Street, police said.

 

TUESDAY, NOV. 15

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

3:55 p.m. – A teenager reported that a man approached her on a downtown street and yelled comments at her about the presidential election. The man was identified and warned about his actions.

LARCENY

5:18 p.m. – Playstation 4 controllers, valued at $120, were reported stolen from a North Pleasant Street fraternity house.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

3:25 a.m. – Loud disco music coming from a Colonial Village home was turned off when police got there.

11:17 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Main Street residents holding a loud party.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

4:40 p.m. – A dog named Jesse escaped or was stolen from a vehicle parked on East Pleasant Street.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

1:12 p.m. – A vehicle that stopped for a pedestrian in a College Street crosswalk sustained minor damage when it was rearended by a second vehicle, police said.

6:11 p.m. – One vehicle was towed following a three-car accident with minor injuries at the intersection of Northampton Road and Orchard Street, police said.

 

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 16

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

8:53 a.m. – Police contacted a man who pitched a tent on the Jones Library property. He was advised to remove it.

9:46 p.m. – A resident living in an Amherst apartment complained that her infant was being affected by a neighbor smoking marijuana in the building. The neighbor was advised to smoke outdoors.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

10:05 a.m. – A Shutesbury Road resident reported someone attempted to open a credit card account in his name.

3:56 p.m. – A woman reported someone called her and told her to go back to her home country. She told police the call may have happened as a result of the presidential election.

LARCENY

10:27 p.m. – A large portrait of Jesus made from fruit was stolen from the cafeteria at the Newman Center.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

1:50 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Presidential Apartments residents talking loudly.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

1:50 p.m. – A vehicle parked on Hallock Street sustained minor damage when it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, police said.

TRAFFIC

11:04 a.m. – Police determined the activation of railroad crossing signals on Pine Street, even though no train was approaching, was caused by railroad crews working on the lines 

 

THURSDAY, NOV. 17

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:48 a.m. – A man and woman asleep in a vehicle parked in the Boltwood parking garage checked out OK.

1:53 a.m. – Police were summoned to Grantwood Drive where a suspicious man walking through the neighborhood was followed by a neighbor. The man checked out OK, and the neighbor was warned about his behavior.

6:18 p.m. – A man and woman sleeping on couches in the Newman Center were sent on their way.

DISTURBANCES

10:42 p.m. – A Hobart Lane resident reported that a college-age man walked into his home and went toward the refrigerator. To remove him from the home, the resident told police he kicked and tackled the intruder, who may have been under the influence of drugs. The man fled into the woods and was not located by police.

1:28 p.m. – Police assisted in removing a bat from a room at the Amherst Woman’s Club.

5:38 p.m. – Two vehicles were towed following a crash with no personal injuries on College Street, police said.

 

FRIDAY, NOV. 18

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

2:38 p.m. – Police took a report that a man sleeping in the lobby of Ann Whalen Apartments the previous night acted in a lewd manner. Police are investigating.

DISTURBANCES

10:25 a.m. – Several homeless individuals harassing a UPS employee in front of the downtown bars were warned about their behavior.

3:20 p.m. – A man being aggressive toward staff at a Northampton Road apartment building was removed. He returned to pick up his belongings the following day at 6:24 p.m.

LARCENY

2:59 p.m. – A bicycle reported stolen from an Amity Street location was located at 6:10 p.m. on South Pleasant Street.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:13 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Main Street residents holding a loud party.

1:39 a.m. – A verbal warning was issued by police to Presidential Apartments residents playing loud music and stomping on the floors. The next day, police were notified that the residents, in retaliation on the people they believed called in the complaint, attempted to scare their neighbors by banging on the doors and jiggling the doorknobs. 

2:30 a.m. – Townehouse Apartments residents playing loud music were issued a verbal warning by police.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

3:58 p.m. – Police warned a Pomeroy Court resident to keep better control of a dog after it got loose and ran in and out of traffic on Pomeroy Lane.

ACCIDENTS

9:56 a.m. – A vehicle was towed from the intersection of Pine and East Pleasant streets after it struck a utility pole while trying to avoid another vehicle, police said.

 

SATURDAY, NOV. 19

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:08 a.m. – A woman who was an uninvited guest at a Colonial Village home agreed to leave when told she would be arrested.

4:15 p.m. – Police assisted a mother and daughter locked out from their South East Street home.

TRAFFIC

6:38 a.m. – A vehicle parked on Spring Street and blocking access for vendors setting up for the Amherst Farmers Market was towed.

 

SUNDAY, NOV. 20

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

5:31 p.m. – A Puffton Village woman reported two individuals came to her home 90 minutes earlier and asked to inspect her electric bill, which she provided. She was given advice on protecting her identity.

8:56 p.m. – Two people loitering in the Kinsey Memorial Garden behind the Jones Library were sent on their way.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

6:56 p.m. – A large bear and a cub on the back porch of a Squire Lane residence were gone when police got there.

TRAFFIC

9:21 a.m. – Police removed a tree that fell across Pine Street.
