The Amherst ABC (A Better Chance) Walk and Run is Oct. 15 starting at the Town Common. The walk is 3 miles and starts at 9 a.m. The run is 5K and starts at 10:30 a.m. The food, entertainment and activities start at 11:30 a.m.
If you can’t walk or run, donations can be sent to: Amherst ABC, Box 5000, Amherst.
The program brings scholars from poor, inner-city school districts to town to attend Amherst Regional High School to get better educations.
This is the 46th annual fall fundraiser.

Retired Pelham kindergarten teacher Debbie Jacques will receive this year’s award. The dinner will be held Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. in Valentine Hall, Amherst College. Tickets are $25 and can be reserved by email: Sonia.nieto.1@gmail.com

Artist Elisa Campbell of Amherst sent me a postcard of Mohegan Island in Maine, where she was on a trip to paint. She said it was glorious. I hope she has an exhibit of her works at the Jones Library so we can see what she has done.

Speaking of artists, congratulations to Lois Barber of Amherst for her winning design of the NEPR-WFCR mug for donors. It features water colors of birds. Lois had a display of her feathered friend at the Jones Library and she also sold her work at the Apple Harvest Festival two weeks ago.
