AMHERST

Anton L. Kolossov, 19, of Westfield, was arrested Oct. 2 at 12:53 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and being a minor in possession of alcohol following a minor crash in which the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a second vehicle, police said.

Brendan J. Gillis, 22, of Duxbury, was arrested Oct. 1 at 1:49 a.m. on East Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes following a minor two-car accident, police said.

Daniel R. Cutler, 32, of Shays Street, was arrested Oct. 1 at 1:47 a.m. on University Drive on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and speeding, police said.

A 56-year-old Amherst woman who allegedly punched a tenant as he was returning to his Belchertown Road home will be summoned to court on two counts of assault and battery, police said.

The incident was reported Sept. 30 at 11:51 a.m. and the victim, as well as his alleged assailant, were both brought to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, police said.

Police said the incident is related to ongoing issues between the tenant, who lives with his mother at the home, and the landlord.

A 30-year-old Hadley man will be summoned to court on charges of attaching license plates to conceal identity, operating a motor vehicle with a number plate violation, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding following a traffic stop on Lincoln Avenue Sept. 30 at 2:32 a.m., police said.

Amber L. Bleakney, 36, of Fairfield Street, was arrested Sept. 30 at 2:03 a.m. on Walnut Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, police said.

A 32-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a lights violation following a traffic stop on South East Street Sept. 28 at 7:16 p.m., police said.

Sharon Ferreira, 53, of Olympia Drive, was arrested Sept. 28 at 4:59 p.m. at her home on a warrant, police said.

Kenneth L. English, 51, no address available, was arrested Sept. 27 at 7 a.m. at Converse Hall on a charge of trespassing, police said.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:04 p.m. – Two women holding a traffic detour sign while walking on McClellan Street were not located.

10:57 a.m. – A German shepherd loose in an Aubinwood Road yard was picked up by the animal welfare officer.

7:15 p.m. – Police issued a warning to the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop for a pedestrian in an East Pleasant Street crosswalk.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 27

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

2:05 a.m. – Police took a report of a man loitering in the woods and watching a woman as she returned to her Puffton Village home. The man was not located by police.

9:08 a.m. – A man trying to hitchhike on Pine Street, and stumbling into the road as vehicles passed by him, was not located.

DISTURBANCES

12:02 p.m. –  A woman who caused a scene at Ann Whalen Apartments by yelling at staff and other people, allegedly for how she feels they have been treating her daughter, was advised to calm down.

12:55 p.m. – Police spoke to two women arguing at the Amherst Survival Center and allegedly making derogatory comments to each other. They were separated and sent on their way.

BREAK-INS

6:53 p.m. – Police are investigating a break-in to a Puffton Village residence in which money was reported stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.

2:56 p.m. – A driver was issued a citation for failure to use care in starting and to keep marked lanes following a two-car accident with no personal injuries on Main Street, police said.

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 28

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:46 a.m. – Police warned a man urinating against a downtown building.

10:42 p.m. – Six men carrying a wooden door on Lincoln Avenue were not located by police.

10:47 p.m. – A Bay Road resident reported a scam in which someone provided a check for rent and overpaid by $1,500, and then requested that the excess money be returned. Police advised the resident that the original check was likely fraudulent.

DISTURBANCES

3:16 p.m. – A woman causing a scene outside a downtown coffee shop after falling off the bench she was sitting on will be issued a trespass notice.

LARCENY

2:03 a.m. – A resident at The Arbors on University Drive told police her wallet, containing $80 and a credit card, was stolen from her purse a few hours earlier. She was advised to cancel the credit card.

10:10 a.m. – A three-car accident with no personal injuries took place at the intersection of Triangle Street and Kellogg Avenue, police said.

8:17 p.m. – One vehicle was towed following a two-car crash with no personal injuries on Hobart Lane, police said.

 

THURSDAY, SEPT. 29

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1 a.m. – Police sent people on their way after they were found in a vehicle parked at the Notch Visitors Center.

11:07 a.m. – People plugging cellphones into an outlet on Boltwood Walk, and leaving beer cans behind, were reported to police. At 9:59 p.m., a woman loitering there with her cellphone charging was warned and sent on her way.

5:16 p.m. – A man walking on the deck of a Chadwick Court home was determined to be a contractor evaluating the condition of decks at the condominium complex.

6:39 p.m. – People shooting a BB gun in the woods near Puffer’s Pond were reported to police.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

1:51 p.m. – A duffel bag and a fleece bag, both filled with clothes, were recovered from a bench at Sweetser Park after police took a report about the suspicious items.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

10:57 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Tyler Place residents holding a loud party with about 60 guests.

8 p.m. – Police took a report of a loud, barking dog on Flat Hills Road.

8:28 a.m. – A vehicle parked on North Pleasant Street sustained heavy damage when it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle overnight, police said.

11:27 a.m. – Police said they issued a driver a warning for failure to use care in stopping following a two-car accident with no personal injuries on Belchertown Road.

3:44 p.m. – One person was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment following a crash at the intersection of South Pleasant and Snell streets, police said.

1:16 a.m. – A man attempting to urinate on a sign on Main Street was advised to find a bathroom.

11:18 p.m. – Police took a report of people making obscene gestures while running in and out of traffic on Belchertown Road near Colonial Village.

LARCENY

1:09 p.m. – A Hillary Clinton for President sign was reported stolen from a Bay Road yard.

VANDALISM

12:06 p.m. – Glass was shattered on the exterior door of a Fearing Street business sometime overnight. No entry was gained.

3:40 p.m. – A window on a vehicle parked at Mount Pleasant Apartments was smashed after something was thrown at it.

10:16 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to The Boulders residents playing loud music and talking loudly.

SATURDAY, OCT. 1

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:10 a.m. – Someone allegedly tried to break into a residence at Southpoint Apartments before fleeing the area.

12:11 a.m. – A man yelling for help in the woods near Olympia Oaks was not located by police.

11:35 a.m. – Police notified an Amherst woman who was getting calls soliciting money for the department that no fundraising is being done.

5:13 p.m. – People taking pallets from a South Whitney Street location were warned that the property was not being thrown out by the business.

DISTURBANCES

12:08 a.m. – A man causing a scene at a downtown restaurant told police he was disoriented while having a difficult semester in graduate school. He was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for an evaluation.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:26 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to The Boulders residents holding a party with about 100 guests.

7:37 p.m. – A verbal warning was issued by police to Northampton Road residents holding a loud party, with some guests reported on the roof of the home.

10:04 p.m. – People holding a loud wedding party on Triangle Street were issued a warning.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

4:35 p.m. – Police assisted Leverett Road residents get a 900-pound pig back into its field.

TRAFFIC

1:42 a.m. – Several drivers for the Uber ride service were warned not to park on travel lanes in downtown Amherst to pick up fares.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 2

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:21 a.m. – A person wandering a tow lot on Sunderland Road pulling on handles of vehicles was intoxicated. A sober friend was contacted to pick him up.

2:20 a.m. – Police removed several underage people drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in a vehicle parked on Hobart Lane. All the alcohol and marijuana was confiscated for destruction, and the people were sent on their way.

4:05 a.m. – A man loitering in a yard on Fairfield Street got lost while trying to return to a hotel in Hadley. Police provided him a courtesy escort.

VANDALISM

12:17 a.m. – Glass to the main door at Aspen Chase Apartments was smashed by vandals.

1:38 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Main Street residents playing loud music and yelling.
