AMHERST

Robert D. Bobskill, 69, of Springfield, was arrested Sept. 23 at 12:23 p.m. on Montague Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as the result of being an habitual traffic offender, operating a motor vehicle with a number plate violation to conceal his identity, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, police said.

A 20-year-old person will be summoned to court on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a trafifc stop on Amity Street at Blue Hills Road Sept. 21 at 10:27 a.m., police said.

Robert Auffinger, 37, of Amherst, was arrested Sept. 20 at 9:09 p.m. on North Pleasant Street on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.

MONDAY, SEPT. 19

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

8:58 p.m. – An apple thrown at a vehicle on Fearing Street didn’t cause any damage. Police were unable to locate the fruit thrower.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

1:44 a.m. – A homeless man told police he was trying to sleep on Kellogg Avenue when two women harassed him and accused him of stealing a bottle of alcohol. Police advised the three people to stay away from each other. 

DISTURBANCES

8:48 a.m. – A disturbance between neighbors at Rolling Green Apartments will be resolved by management.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

11:24 p.m. – Both vehicles were towed following a two-car accident with no personal injuries  at the intersection of Amity Street and University Drive, police said.

One driver was issued a citation for failure to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn, according to police.

 

TUESDAY, SEPT. 20

DISTURBANCES

1:13 p.m. and 10:08 p.m. – Police twice responded to a South East Street home to keep the peace between a mother and daughter.

5:33 p.m. – A man and woman were reported arguing at Jessie’s House on Seelye Street over the safety of a child after the child was seen leaning back in a chair and risking injury if the chair fell.

9:05 p.m. – People tossing a football onto Triangle Street, which struck one passing vehicle and prompted a second vehicle to swerve to avoid the football, were warned to take their game to a different location.

VANDALISM

8:33 a.m. – A door was kicked in at a Fearing Street home sometime overnight, possibly in retaliation for the resident during the previous weekend yelling at people who were urinating on his lawn during the daytime.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

10:52 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to people playing loud music and yelling on Sunset Avenue. The residents told police they would be heading to the downtown bars.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

1:20 p.m. – Police were unable to locate a raccoon allegedly chasing people at Kendrick Park.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

12:03 p.m. – A vehicle parked in the Riverside Park shopping plaza on Montague Road sustained minor damage when it was struck by a van that fled toward Leverett, police said.

4:46 p.m. – A driver was issued a citation for failure to use care in turning after striking a bicyclist on North Pleasant Street near Kellogg Avenue, police said.

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 21

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

9:52 p.m. – A woman leaving a location in Cushman was approached by a man who attempted to stop her vehicle and accused her of setting off an alarm at a nearby home.

DISTURBANCES

1:50 p.m. – An Olympia Oaks resident told police she was scratched and her shirt was torn in half during an altercation over cigarettes. The woman said she would be able to work out her problems without police assistance.

BREAK-INS

6:24 p.m. – A woman reported someone attempted to get into her vehicle while it was parked on Triangle Street. No forced entry was made.

FIGHTS

6:25 p.m. – Police are investigating a fight that occurred in front of an East Pleasant Street business. At 7:22 p.m., a victim of the fight, with a cut under his right eye, was found on a PVTA bus.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

1:45 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Gray Street residents playing loud music.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

6:12 p.m. – A woman was bitten on the buttocks by a loose dog as she was trying to return it to a neighbor’s home on Cosby Avenue. The dog owner provided information to police that the dog is up to date on its vaccinations.

 

THURSDAY, SEPT. 22

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

8:21 a.m. – A man with a trespass notice loitering on a property in North Amherst was warned to leave the location.

6:56 p.m. – Possible drug dealers using a location on Brigham Lane for transactions were reported to police. The suspects were not identified.

7:44 p.m. – A teenager home alone at a Market Hill Road home told police she was awoken by men’s voices and footsteps. Police determined that no break-in occurred and that the noise was coming from a voicemail system that plays messages over a loud speaker.

DISTURBANCES

10:54 p.m. – Police responded to Southpoint Apartments for an argument between women who both wanted to take care of a dog for a resident with whom they are friends. At 11:38 p.m., police returned to the same home for an altercation between two men, including one who was heavily intoxicated.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

9:06 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Tyler Place residents making loud noises while watching the New England Patriots football game.

 

 

FRIDAY, SEPT. 23

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:21 a.m. – People walking trails at the Mill River Recreation Area were warned the park closes at dark.

12:42 a.m. – Screaming from a North Pleasant Street home was determined to be residents anxious about the fate of their cat, which got loose.

9:24 a.m. – A folding knife located in a backpack was confiscated from a high school student by school officials. The student was expelled and discipline will be handled by administrators, according to police.

2:31 p.m. – Police located a person dumping trash illegally at Southpoint Apartments and warned the person to stop the activity.

5:42 p.m. – A man wearing headphones and loitering in the parking lot of Valley Medical Group on Hall Drive was not located by police.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:33 p.m. – A Mill Valley Estates resident called police complaining about noise an upstairs neighbor makes while walking on the floor. Police determined that the squeaking sounds are made because of the age of the building.

DISTURBANCES

1:20 p.m. – Two men causing a scene in the Jones Library were separated and sent on their way.

6:28 p.m. – A Pine Street resident told police two women came to her home to start a confrontation, banging on her door and ringing her doorbell. The women, whose father is in a relationship with the resident, agreed to leave.

6:31 p.m. – Police responded to a Mill Hollow Apartments home for an argument between a resident and guest staying at a neighbor’s residence.

11:12 p.m. – An intoxicated woman attempting to stop vehicles at the corner of Pine and North Pleasant streets in an effort to get a ride home from the Uber ride service was advised to stay out of the road. She left the area with a sober friend.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:17 a.m. – Police issued a warning to Main Street residents holding a loud party. The resident attempted to register the party through a new off-campus system at UMass, but didn’t officially complete the form in time.

10:43 p.m. and 11:06 p.m. – Verbal warnings were issued by police to Cathedral Apartments and Grantwood Drive residents holding loud parties.

MOTOR VEHICLE

ACCIDENTS

12:47 p.m. – The building that houses the Valley Frame Works business on Main Street sustained minor damage when a vehicle drove into the side of it, police said.

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 24

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:59 a.m. – A man who made threats toward a person hosting a party at a College Street residence was not located.

6:41 a.m. – Police found a man walking on Bay Road who had slept in the yard of a home overnight after attending a party on Mechanic Street.

6:41 p.m. – A bottle was broken in the doorway of a Townehouse Apartments home and the front door, which had been locked, was opened. Police determined no intruder got into the residence.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

6:41 p.m. – A woman riding a horse on a conservation land on Station Road told police a man and his son were flying a drone and using a laptop. They fled the location before police got there.

DISTURBANCES

3:57 p.m. – People arguing over a home improvement job on North Prospect Street was advised to go to small claims court to settle the matter involving $27.

LARCENY

9:29 p.m. – Police were notified about a scam in which an Amherst man has sent more than $8,000 to Costa Rica.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:29 a.m., 1:44 a.m. and 2:21 a.m.– Police issued verbal warnings to Montague Road, South Whitney Street and Brandywine Apartments residents holding loud parties.

12:30 a.m., 1:09 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. – Verbal warnings were issued by police to Main Street, Puffton Village and Pelham Road residents playing loud music.

3:01 a.m. – A company whose employees were cleaning exhaust fans on the roof of a downtown restaurant was warned about the loud noise being made.

11:48 p.m. – Alpha Tau Gamma residents were issued a verbal warning after yelling was heard coming from the Sunset Avenue home.

TRAFFIC

12:20 p.m. – Passengers on a PVTA bus on North Pleasant Street suffered minor injuries after the bus braked abruptly to avoid hitting a vehicle pulling off Fairfield Street.

 

SUNDAY, SEPT. 25

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:26a.m. –  People preparing to throw a traffic cone into the middle of Main Street near Dickinson Street were warned about their actions.

3:20 p.m. – Police took a report of a man driving a vehicle on East Pleasant Street who asked a woman for directions and then solicited sex from her. The matter remains under investigation.

DISTURBANCES

12:37 a.m. – Police found a man and woman involved in a disturbance on North Pleasant Street near North Amherst center. Police determined the man was calming the woman down after she got into an altercation with another woman.

1:24 a.m. – Two women were found screaming at each other on North Pleasant Street near Berkshire Terrace.

LARCENY

10:08 a.m. – Both license plates were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Nutting Avenue.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:08 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to South East Street residents holding a loud party.

TRAFFIC

12:12 a.m. and 12:40 a.m. – Police issued warnings and citations to Uber drivers parked blocking bicycle lanes and fire hydrants downtown.

2:04 p.m. – The crosswalk sign on Main Street near Town Hall was damaged when it was run over by a passing vehicle.
