AMHERST

Ryan E. Gardner, 25, of Mill Site Road, Hadley, was arrested Sept. 19 at 1:35 a.m. on Meadow Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and speeding, police said.

A 25-year-old Amherst man will be summoned to court on a charge of wanton destruction of property over $250 after he allegedly damaged a fence in front of a downtown restaurant Sept. 19 at 12:27 a.m., police said.

Boone J. Gibson, 25, of Montague Road, Leverett, was arrested Sept. 18 at 1:19 a.m. on East Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and speeding, police said.

Russell M. St. Andre, 53, of Palmer, was arrested Sept. 17 at 10:50 p.m. on East Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and possession of a class A drug, heroin, after a straw with residue consistent with the substance was found in the vehicle, police said.

Michael A. Bilodeau, 20, of Hyannis, was arrested Sept. 17 at 6:45 p.m. on Sunset Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, speeding and being a minor in possession of alcohol, police said.

A 22-year-old Leyden woman will be summoned to court on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failure to use care in passing after the vehicle she was driving on Northampton Road struck a vehicle Sept. 16 at 5:08 p.m., police said.

Claude Bolling, 46, who listed his address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested Sept. 14 at 8:18 p.m. on Railroad Street on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender, second offense, police said.

Alexander Thompson, 21, of Westford, was arrested Sept. 14 at 1:06 a.m. in the yard of Douglass Funeral Service on North Pleasant Street on a charge of disorderly conduct after he was found accosting two women and was uncooperative with officers, police said

A 36-year-old woman will be summoned to court on a charge of shoplifting after she left the CVS Pharmacy on North Pleasant Street without paying for merchandise Sept. 13 at 11:35 a.m, police said.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

8:03 p.m. – Youths ringing doorbells to a Village Park home and then fleeing before the resident opened the door were identified. Their parents are being notified.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

12:47 p.m. – A woman aggressively panhandling outside a Belchertown Road store was gone when police got there.

DISTURBANCES

6:38 a.m. – A homeless customer angry at an employee at a downtown coffee shop was calmed down by police. The argument began over non-payment for a trinket the employee bought from the customer.

7:41 a.m. – A man yelling at customers entering and exiting a downtown cafe was warned about his behavior.

5:25 p.m. – Police kept the peace between people loitering near the Unitarian Meetinghouse.

7 a.m. – Police took a report that the Sunset Avenue sign at the Amity Street intersection was missing.

4:36 p.m. – A 1999 Chrysler Concord was reported stolen from a College Street parking lot.

1:10 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Echo Village Apartments residents playing loud music.

2:32 p.m. – A truck damaged the traffic lights at the intersection of North Pleasant and Meadow streets, police said.

 

TUESDAY, SEPT. 13

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

9:17 p.m. – Police assisted a homeless man on Main Street get back a Hershey’s bar and other chocolates taken from him by a homeless woman.

DISTURBANCES

4:23 p.m. – People using obscene language and racial slurs at Puffer’s Pond were gone when police got there.

8:57 p.m. – Police kept the peace between people arguing on Seelye Street.

FIGHTS

11:12 p.m. – An altercation in which bottles were being broken at Southpoint Apartments was reported to police. Police responded to keep the peace.

10:45 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Colonial Village residents playing loud music.

ACCIDENTS

10:25 a.m. – A vehicle sustained minor damage after it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle at the intersection of East Pleasant and Triangle streets, police said.

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 14

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:04 a.m. – Police issued a warning to a person urinating against an East Pleasant Street building.

7:07 p.m. – Two mattresses were found dumped illegally along West Street near the Notch.

9:38 p.m. – A man loitering with a flashlight on private property on Old Montague Road was not located.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

5:23 a.m. – Police assisted a Colonial Village resident to remove an unwanted guest he let into his home overnight.

DISTURBANCES

12:49 p.m. – Police kept the peace between a customer and an employee at a downtown store where the customer’s cellphone was being repaired.

VANDALISM

7:36 p.m. – Police determined that a hole allegedly punched in the window of a vehicle parked at The Boulders was likely caused by a ball that struck it from a nearby playground

9:07 p.m. – A rear window was smashed out from a vehicle parked at a Triangle Street lcoation.

 

THURSDAY, SEPT. 15

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

2:29 a.m. – Police checked the security of a building at the Ruxton gravel pit in North Amherst after lights were found on inside. No problems were identified.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

1:29 a.m. – A person causing issues outside the downtown bars was transported to a Main Street home by a sober friend.

2:13 a.m. – Police spoke to Hobart Lane residents about being responsible party hosts.

 

FRIDAY, SEPT. 16

DISTURBANCES

9:09 p.m. – A man yelling at passers-by in front of a downtown restaurant was sent on his way.

FIGHTS

11:47 p.m. – Two women fighting in the woods off Snell Street were not located.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

11:37 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Aspen Chase Apartments residents playing loud video games.

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 17

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:27 a.m. – An intoxicated man attempting to sleep against the side of a Gray Street home was removed by police.

3:51 p.m. – Police responded to a Fearing Street location where people were allegedly urinating near the woodline. At 5:41 p.m., police took a report of people on the same street consuming alcohol on the public way, though police found no evidence this was happening.

5:30 p.m. – A man attempting to scam a downtown store by pretending to return merchandise he hasn’t bought was identified and will be issued a trespass notice.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

7:54 p.m. – Police assisted hikers lost on a trail near the Notch. They safely exited onto Harris Mountain Road.

DISTURBANCES

4:59 p.m. – A man suffered a broken arm after punching a brick wall on Main Street, moments after he caused a laceration to another man’s chin during a fight. Police are investigating.

VANDALISM

11:52 p.m. – People trying to knock down a lamp post on Hobart Lane fled before police got there.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

12:07 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to people yelling at passers-by in front of a South East Street home.

2:28 a.m. – Puffton Village residents holding a karaoke event in their apartment were issued a verbal warning by police.

7:04 p.m. – Cows loose on South East Street were moved back to their field.

12:50 p.m. – People tossing a football in the middle of Meadow Street fled before police got there.

 

SUNDAY, SEPT. 18

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:33 a.m. – A man urinating behind a downtown building was advised to find a restroom.

DISTURBANCES

3:47 p.m. – Police were notified about a disturbance at Echo Village Apartments in which a man involved in a dispute over money with a woman claimed she struck him in the head with a broom. He was advised to go to court if he wanted to press charges against her.

VANDALISM

8:37 a.m. – A mailbox and a house number sign were damaged sometime overnight at a Heatherstone Road home.

2:56 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Main Street residents playing loud music.
