AMHERST

Rafael J. Garcia, 21, of Cross Brook Drive, was arrested Aug. 15 at 1:35 a.m. on Pine Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, speeding, failure to use care in turning and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

A 52-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt and operating a motor vehicle with a lights violation following a traffic stop on Snell Street Aug. 14 at 12:59 a.m., police said.

A 22-year-old Hardwick man will be summoned to court on a charge of malicious damage to a motor vehicle after he allegedly jumped on a vehicle parked at Puffton Village Aug. 13 at 1:28 a.m., police said.

Joshua I. Silver, 37, of Northampton, was arrested Aug. 13 at 12:24 a.m. on Northampton Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to use care in stopping, police said.

A 17-year-old youth will be summoned to court on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a traffic stop at the intersection of North Pleasant and Triangle streets Aug. 11 at 12:40 a.m., police said. 

Jesus A. Merino, 22, of The Boulders, was arrested Aug. 10 at 6:35 p.m. on Triangle Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk after his vehicle nearly struck a woman in a wheelchair crossing the road, police said.

Gregory P. Massa, 32, of Leverett, was arrested Aug. 10 at 1:17 a.m. on Triangle Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

5:16 p.m. – Police are investigating the possible theft of a bicycle from an Amherst residence after its owner saw youths riding it on a downtown street.

DISTURBANCES

3:05 p.m. – A disturbance in front of a downtown coffee shop ended before police got there.

FIGHTS

4:52 p.m. – Two homeless people arguing on the North Pleasant Street sidewalk were separated.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

11:43 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to McClellan Street residents holding a loud party.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 13

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

9:36 p.m. – Police took a report of a person crying near Puffer’s Pond. Officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.

11:29 p.m. – A person sitting in a vehicle parked at Rolling Green Apartments was reported to police. Officers identified the person as a security official hired by management of the complex.

LARCENY

6:34 p.m. – A grill was reported stolen from an East Pleasant Street home.

6:36 p.m. – A person at Puffer’s Pond told police an iPhone was stolen while swimming.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

2:22 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Presidential Apartments residents making loud noise.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 14

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:43 a.m. – A person banging on the door to a Blue Hills Road home fled before police got there.

LARCENY

4:16 p.m. – Police are investigating the theft of a bicycle from a Kellogg Avenue location.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

1:18 p.m. – A malfunctioning alarm on vehicle was causing significant noise at the Clark House. The owner will get the car repaired.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

7:24 a.m. – Police assisted a North Whitney Street resident remove a bat from the home.

12:24 p.m. – A fox roaming an East Pleasant Street yard and causing concern for the resident was not located by police.

TRAFFIC

8:26 a.m. – Amherst Police assisted Amherst College Police with a traffic issue on College Street that occurred when a boat became unhitched from the vehicle towing it.
