Conor P. Doherty, 23, of Woburn, was arrested May 2 at 1:32 a.m. on South Pleasant Street near the North Common on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes after the vehicle he was driving struck a light pole, police said.
Alexander J. Booth, 22, of Andover, was arrested May 1 at 12:09 a.m. at the intersection of Main and Shumway streets on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle with a lights violation, police said.
Matthew D. Burns, 53, of Stafford Springs, Connecticut, was arrested April 30 at 2:24 p.m. at the intersection of South Pleasant and Amity streets on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second offense, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle to endanger after the vehicle he was driving struck a second vehicle, causing minor damage and no personal injuries, police said.
Tabatha Lippman, 27, of Williamsburg, was arrested April 29 at 11:09 a.m. on University Drive on a warrant, police said.
David M. Hurlburt, 24, of Orange, was arrested April 27 at 6:47 p.m. on South East Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and failure to stop/ yield, police said.
Hadley
A 48-year-old Hadley man will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes following a crash into a telephone pole on South Maple Street May 1 at 4:09 p.m., police said.

1:30 p.m. – Police are trying to identify the person who dumped trash illegally in a Dumpster at Rolling Green Apartments.
8:17 p.m. – Crying and banging sounds coming from a Mill Valley Estates residence were investigated. Police determined the noise was being made by a loud television.
8:45 p.m. – People smoking cigarettes at Mill River Recreation Area were sent on their way and were advised the park closes at night.
11:13 p.m. – Two individuals stargazing in a vehicle parked on State Street near Puffer’s Pond were sent on their way.
DISTURBANCES
9:29 a.m. – A homeless woman whose belongings were strewn about the Newman Center was advised to leave the building. At 6:59 p.m., four more homeless people hanging out in the student activity area and cafeteria were sent on their way.

9:41 a.m. – A driver’s side mirror was ripped off from a vehicle parked at Presidential Apartments on North Pleasant Street.
BREAK-INS
8:28 a.m. – Police are investigating a reported break-in to an office on University Drive. Police said there were signs of forced entry. No additional information was available.
ANIMAL COMPLAINTS
1:03 p.m. – A resident told police she was walking her small dog on Grantwood Drive when a larger dog approached, bared its teeth and barked at her. Police identified the owner of the offending dog and advised her to keep the dog on a leash at all times, and possibly to install an electric fence on the perimeter of her property.

ACCIDENTS
7:19 a.m. – One vehicle was towed following a two-car accident with no personal injuries at the intersection of Pine and Harris streets, police said.
1:53 p.m. – A logging truck traveling north through the intersection of North Pleasant and Pine streets damaged a traffic signal, police said. At 5:46 p.m., a police officer was stationed at the intersection to direct traffic after vehicles backed up on Meadow Street after the lights were set on flash.

3:23 p.m. – A small brush fire near the Community Field playground was extinguished by firefighters. Police said the fire may have been started by children playing with matches.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
3:29 p.m. – Illegal dumping of trash in a Dumpster at a West Street business was reported to police.
6:50 p.m. – A South Amherst resident reported that someone attempted to stalk her. She told police it might be a former boyfriend who is responsible.
7:23 p.m. – Several homeless people in West Cemetery talking about where they will stay when the Craig’s Place homeless shelter closes for the season were sent on their way.

2:27 p.m. – The handle was broken off from a watering can in a Triangle Street yard.

3:18 p.m. – A man in the middle of Amity and North Pleasant streets sweeping the roads was sent on his way.
10:48 p.m. – Police placed a 30-year-old Athol man in protective custody after he was found passed out in a vehicle in the Boltwood parking garage.
CITIZEN ASSISTANCE
5:47 p.m. – A North Whitney Street resident called police to report a neighbor was in the yard throwing things around. Police found no evidence of any such behavior.
RECOVERED PROPERTY
4 p.m. – A small amount of marijuana confiscated from a middle school student was turned over to police.
LARCENY
10:18 a.m. – Management at Big Y Supermarket on University Drive reported that three days earlier a couple left the store without paying for $200 in merchandise, including cereal, energy drinks and diapers. Police are investigating.
7:22 p.m. – A woman reported her cellphone was stolen the previous night at a downtown bar. She told police she will try to track it down on her own.
FIGHTS
5:02 p.m. – A PVTA bus stopped on West Street near Hampshire College when two combatants continued to fight, including one who suffered a laceration to his face. Police spoke to the men and determined neither wanted to press charges.

12:45 a.m. and 11:22 p.m. – Police issued verbal warnings to Puffton Village residents playing loud music.
1:17 a.m. – Two women yelling and singing for several minutes at Kendrick Park, both possibly under the influence of marijuana, were advised to quiet down and leave the site after police received complaints about their behavior.

9:57 a.m. – An unlicensed dog found on Ward Street was returned to its owner, who was warned about letting his pet run loose.

6:50 p.m. – A college-age woman was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of College and Railroad streets, police said. She was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, according to police.

8:32 a.m. – Police took a report of a debris pile at the corner of Pine and State streets with a strobe light on top of it. No such object was found when officers got there.
4:34 p.m. – A resident reported losing $8,000 from an IRS scam.
7:19 p.m. – People shooting a pellet gun in a Lincoln Avenue yard were warned to stop the activity after bothering neighbors.

2:05 a.m. – A Lincoln Avenue resident called police to report a friend visiting from out of town may have gotten lost while returning from the downtown bars. She returned safely at 2:19 a.m.
9:49 a.m. – A resident reported getting several annoying phone calls in the early morning hours. Police determined the calls were coming from an automated system.
10:41 a.m. – Police responded to a downtown residence where a man alleged other occupants of the building intentionally turned the heat up in his apartment, and that he was injured when a resident hit him in the face with a door.
3:26 p.m. – A North Amherst resident told police a neighbor has been letting children run on the floors intentionally to make noise that disturbs her. She also said management may have a spare key to her apartment that it is using to break in.
5:47 p.m. – Police responded to an Amherst site where a man and woman were hiking, and the woman became ill. Police determined the woman was just trying to get out of a date set up using the WeChat app and feigned illness instead of being more forthcoming about why she wanted to end the hike.
7:30 p.m. – Three homeless people loitering at the Newman Center were sent on their way.

10:29 p.m. – An intoxicated college-age woman entered a Summer Street home and then loitered on the porch before police got there. Police discovered the woman lived nearby and gave her an escort to her residence.

3:31 p.m. – A lawn at Mill Valley Estates was damaged when someone drove a vehicle over it.

12:17 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Olympia Oaks residents playing loud music.

1:20 p.m. – A woman told police she was driving on Belchertown Road when she was struck in the face by a passenger, who also grabbed the steering wheel. Police are investigating the alleged assault.

1:17 a.m. – A bicycle was reported stolen from Hillel House on North Pleasant Street.
8:53 p.m. – A Chadwick Court resident reported the theft of her purse from the mailroom two days earlier.

12:42 a.m. – A table valued at $2,000 was allegedly broken at a Rolling Green Apartments home afterthe resident let workers in a few hours earlier.

11:10 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Mill Valley Estates residents being loud while hammering objects and shouting.

4:22 p.m. – A Kingman Road resident expressed concern about a loose dog chasing his cat.
4:48 p.m. – Police took a report from an Old Farm Road resident whose dog was attacked by another dog earlier in the day, with the injured dog needing stitches and to be placed in quarantine. The resident told police he also had to punch the other dog to get it away from his pet.

8:34 a.m. – A vehicle sustained a scratch when it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in the middle school parking lot, police said.
10:34 a.m. – A woman sitting on the hood of a vehicle parked on University Drive told police a woman driving another vehicle struck the vehicle, causing her to fall to the ground. The other driver fled after making an obscene gesture at her, police said.
3:40 p.m. – Both vehicles were towed following a two-car accident with no personal injuries on University Drive, police said.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
11 a.m. – A suspicious man and woman soliciting for a solar power company on South East Street fled before police got there.
3:23 p.m. – People urinating on a Hobart Lane property were reported to police. At 6:17 p.m., police found a man who went onto a neighbor’s yard to urinate. He was warned about his actions.
7:04 p.m. – Police responded to the area of Crestview Apartments where man was sitting in a vehicle videotaping people attending a party. Police determined the man was working for Uber and was parked in a public place.

12:26 a.m. – A man at Gilreath Manor on Hobart Lane complained about security officers shining a flashlight at him.

2:03 a.m. – A man angry after his vehicle was towed from a North Pleasant Street fraternity parking lot calmed down.
6:51 a.m. – A 25-year-old Leverett man banging on doors to homes on Hallock Street, and who also was yelling about killing people, was placed into protective custody.
2:11 p.m. – Police responded to a bus stop on North Pleasant Street near Cowles Avenue where a woman was allegedly yelling at another woman and her children. The woman left on a bus.

4:36 p.m. – A purse containing $20 in cash was reported stolen from a vehicle which had its front driver’s side window smashed out while parked at the Notch Visitors Center, police said.
NOISE COMPLAINTS
1:32 a.m., 2:05 a.m. and 11:41 p.m.– Police cleared out loud parties at Van Meter Drive, Lincoln Avenue and Main Street residences.
7:04 p.m. – Organizers of a party with a live band on Ball Lane were issued a verbal warning by police.
10:03 p.m. – Loud music reported by a West Street resident was determined to be music from the Spring Jam event at Hampshire College, which was to run for another three hours.
11:05 p.m. – People being loud and skateboarding in the middle of North East Street were sent inside for the night.

2:14 p.m. – A snapping turtle at risk of being struck by passing vehicles on West Street was safely escorted to the side of the road.
10:11 p.m. – A North Amherst resident called police after her husband put his dog in his vehicle and drove away. She told police she was worried the dog might be harmed with numerous drunken drivers on the streets on Saturday nights.

1:01 a.m. – A man causing a scene outside a downtown bar was calmed down by police.
4:27 p.m. – Police kept the peace between two men arguing in front of the downtown bars.
7:01 p.m. – A child being difficult with her mother and refusing to leave a South Amherst home was cooperative when police got there.
ANIMAL COMPLAINTS
10:28 a.m. – A loose dog on the Cushman Village common bit a woman on the hand, with the puncture wounds causing her to bleed. She was evaluated by Amherst Fire Department paramedics.
