AMHERST — Intrigued by the third sighting of a moose on his South Amherst street in two weeks, photographer Michael Zide ventured over to the animal to get some photos Wednesday morning.
Though he got close, Zide described the moose as having “a kind disposition.”
“Quite a scene,” he said. “I was reasonably close and he kept minding his business as if I didn’t exist.”
Seen off of Station Road about 8 a.m., the animal appeared to have slept behind a nearby tennis court, Zide said.
“He was kind of curled in a ball poking his head up now and again,” he said. “When the sun got up, it got a little warmer and he decided to move.”
Zide said a handful of his neighbors also saw the moose, which had a large patch of bare skin. He said the “good bit of wild space” near Lawrence Swamp is likely what attracts moose to the area.
