SUNDERLAND — School officials plan to ask for a budget for the next academic year that would increase from this year by 10.18 percent.
Sunderland School Committee members voted unanimously Tuesday to propose a Fiscal Year 2017 budget of $2,376,190 at the annual town meeting on April 29. This is up $219,590 from this year’s spending.
Patti A. Cavanaugh, the director of business services for Frontier Regional and Union 38 school districts, cautioned that the Select Board and Finance Committee could change the figures.
She said the proposed increase is due to increased enrollment.
The proposed budget contains a $171,653, or 7.96 percent, increase in salary-related costs. This includes a $54,377 (2.52 percent) increase for an additional first-grade teacher and a $45,092 (2.09 percent) hike for an additional instructional assistant.
A $53,947, or 2.5 percent, increase in operational expenses has been proposed.
There is a $6,010 decrease in regular transportation costs and school committee legal expenses.
