I was taken aback to read Chris Collins’ column in The Recorder and to learn that “some people have caught the Bernie bug from scads of younger voters” etc., etc. I have lived long enough and voted in enough elections to see how the political process works in this country. I think it’s great that younger people are involved and concerned but I have known about Bernie Sanders for years. He is not only the candidate of the young and inexperienced. Bernie has been re-elected to multiple terms as both the mayor of Burlington, Vt., and as a U.S. senator from that state. He is no political newcomer and his views about what this country should look like have remained consistent. The blatant buying of elections, i.e., the lack of meaningful limits on campaign contributions, the lack of an easily navigated universal health care system, increasing wealth inequality, military adventurism in search of profit in foreign countries. These are the issues that Bernie is talking about in this election and has talked about in past elections. His point of view has remained the same. I’m voting for Bernie on Tuesday.
