Garden report: A dandelion was in bloom in the lawn. In the summer I picked herbs to dry — basil, parsley, oregano and thyme. This past weekend, I crumbled the herbs and put them in labeled jars.

Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 28. Town offices, schools, libraries and banks will be closed. Some stores will be as well. I hope you are able to enjoy the day with family and friends. Various organizations sponsor free Tturkey dinners that day. They could use volunteers to deliver meals to those unable to attend. Check the paper for listings.

In addition, Amherst Town Hall, the Jones Library and the Bangs Center will be closed Friday, Nov. 29.

The South Amherst Congregational Church on Fiddler’s Green will hold its annual Sleigh Bell Fair Saturday, Nov. 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes an art raffle, a white elephant sale, clothing, jams, baked goods, lunch, holiday crafts, a children’s room and books. It’s free.

The Roadtown Turkey Trot 5K Race and Walk will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. at the Shutesbury Elementary School, West Pelham Road. The event is a benefit for the new Shutesbury Library, which is under construction.

Register at roadtown.org. A Children’s Fun Run around the track at the school will begin at 9:30 a.m.
