Garden report: The dahlias, black-eyed Susans, Queen Anne’s lace, hosta and celosia have bloomed. There are several peppers on each plant. I will have a good crop.

The snap peas are done. I have cucumbers about an inch long. The potatoes have blossoms.

Agnes Zsigmondy McCraven of Amherst sent me a email about the opening reception for her art show Friday, July 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The show will be there until the end of August.

“There will be refreshments and I will sell my original greeting cards and CD’s,” she wrote.

She retired as the music teacher at Crocker Farm School.

Amy Grant of Amherst sent me an email about her concert Sunday, July 14 at 3 p.m. at Memorial Hall Museum, Deerfield. Pianist Ken Forfia will also perform. The concert includes works by Scarlatti, Chopin and Beethoven, and Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Leverett native Natalya Zoe Weinstein and John Cloyd Miller will perform as Zoe and Clyde Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Hadley, according to an email from Zoe’s mother, Janine Roberts. The concert features original and traditional bluegrass, klezmer and folk music. Tickets are at the door with a $20 suggested donation.

Returning to the area and performing has become an annual tradition.

Gina Kaufman of Amherst sent an email about the new schedule for performances of the Silverthorne Theater production of “Bulrusher.” The show will be held July 10-14 at the Dickinson Theater at Hampshire College. An illness necessitated the change.

The Amherst Shade Tree Committee will do some pruning and mulching on East Pleasant Street near the UMass water towers and Strong Street Saturday, July 13 beginning at 9 a.m., according to an email from Julian Hynes, who is vice chair of the committee.

The Summer Reading Club for adults and children has begun. Register at the Jones Library or branches. The theme is Read, Renew, Repeat. I have my packet and there are many interesting suggestions that deal with nature, climate and sustainability. It’s free.
