Holiday greetings to all those who celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings also known as the Epiphany, which is on Jan. 6.

My Orchard Valley neighbor Dana Carnegie, communications director for Girl Scouts of Central and Western Mass., sent me an email with good news. The annual Girl Scout cookie drop will be held Jan. 11 when 32,629 cases (391,548 packages) will descend on several locations.

The cases will be picked up by local leaders and Scouts ready to be sold. Orchard Valley does have a troop, so I don’t have very far so pick up my order. Sorry, I am not a thin mint person.

Paul Berube, head of information services at the Jones Library, sent me an email about the free drop-in tech support program that will be held Jan. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bangs Center. The program includes one-on-one help with laptops, phones and tablets. You can also learn how to borrow free digital books and magazines as well as stream free movies. The program will also be held Jan. 23, same time, place.

Many thanks to the restaurants and staff who are open on holidays. Being married with four children, I prepared three meals a day for decades. It is a joy and relief to know I don’t have to cook on a holiday. I am grateful for the people who do.

More good news: Beginning Dec. 27, the minutes of daylight began to increase. When the column is published, we should have five more minutes of light if my math is correct.

Don’t get out the sunscreen yet.
