Garden report: I bought two begonia plants, one red and one red and white striped. It’s late in the season, but they were on sale. Now the decision — to keep them in pots or plant them, then dig up in the fall to bring inside?

The dahlias are so tall they need to be staked. My one eggplant should be ready this week. I have two others starting. They are slow for me this year.

My shallots are ready to be harvested.

Melissa Ludtke sent me an email noting that she will be in town Aug. 3 for her 55th ARHS reunion. She will be in town in September and October to talk about her book, “Locker Room Talk: A Woman’s Struggle to get Inside.”

Some may remember that she successfully sued the baseball commissioner to have women be able to access team clubhouses. Women sports writers were not allowed entry. The case was in 1978.

She played basketball at ARHS. Details of her talks in future issues.
