The Amherst Farmer’s Market is open Saturday, April 19 at 8 a.m. on the Town Common and continues every Saturday until November. Full disclosure: I help my friends at the Sunset Farm booth. I get paid in green beans, sometimes yellow.

While you are there you can help the Amherst Shade Tree Committee plant a tree. The tree planting was postponed last Saturday because of the snow. Look for shovels between 9 a.m. and noon. It’s free.

Lucy and Dan McMurrer of Amherst sent a postcard of Kristiansand, Norway. From there they went to Stavanger and Oslo. “We saw a submarine cruising Kristiansand Fjord, enjoyed reindeer stew and have been hiking. You know what they say: “‘ut pa tur, aldri sur!’” they wrote.

Actually I didn’t know what they say but will find out when they return.

Katie Fretwell of Amherst sent a card from Amherst that depicted scenes from Cidade Velho and Cabo Verde. She and husband Bob visited the Azores and Cape Verde, two very different archipelagos. “Adventure and beauty the whole time,” she wrote. She brought back the postcard from the trip and mailed it here. It still counts for the postcard contest.
