Are you ready for the ultimate experience? If the answer is yes, plan on joining the Summer Ultimate League of Amherst (SULA) for another exciting summer of ultimate frisbee. SULA, which started in 1995, is celebrating its 30th season and has another year of fun in store over the next couple of months.
This league is geared for people who want to enjoy the thrill and excitement of ultimate. Never played before? No problem, all levels of ability are welcome to join, and all players will be assigned a team.
There are two leagues with several divisions in each one. In the adult league, there is a mixed adult recreational division that begins on June 19 and ends Aug. 7 for ages 14 or older. There is also a women’s division that starts June 18 and ends Aug. 6 for girls and women ages 13 or older. These divisions take place at Plum Brook Recreation Area on Potwine Lane in Amherst.
The other league is the junior league, which is for mixed youth players ages 7-13 and begins on June 24 and ends Aug. 5. This league offers practices and games for each meeting and is coached by local players. If interested, please contact Sue Morrello (smorrello@yahoo.com). There are three options in the junior league, starting with “Frisbee Activities for Kids” for ages 7 and 8. From there, ages 9-11 can play in the elementary division while ages 12 and 13 compete in the middle school division. The junior league also takes place at Plum Brook Recreation Area.
