Garden report: the lilac has very few blossoms but the aroma is still there. The crane bill geraniums and New England asters are up. I am waiting for the iris to bloom

The Amherst History Center opens a new exhibit, “A Wider Lens, Intergenerational Arts,” May 7 that runs until May 16. It is a partnership between the center and Amherst Regional High School students. A reception will be held May 14 from 6-7 p.m. it’s free and open to the public.

Grace Church on the common will hold a plant sale Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with plants, tools, pots and decorations.

The annual Emily Dickinson Poetry Walk will be held Saturday, May 16 beginning at 10 a.m. The event ends at the West Cemetery at noon at her grave where poems will be recited and daisies placed on the grave. The walk is free but registration is required.

Maureen Bowler sent me an email about the 100th anniversary dinner of the Amherst Rotary Club that will be held Monday, June 8 at 5 p.m. at the Lord Jeff. Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets are $60.

For reservations contact her at Maureen.bowler04@gmail.com. The deadline is June 1. FYI the Lord Jeff is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. I know the Lord Jeff has a new name but I have been here for decades so the name I am familiar with stays in my brain.

“Woman’s History in Life and Death” is the subject of the walking tour of the Bridge Street Cemetery led by Elizabeth Sacktor Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m. An additional walk will be held Thursday, May 14 at 10 a.m. The walks are sponsored by Historic Northampton. Registration is required. There is a sliding scale admission from $10-$25. To register visit: historicnorthampton.org.
