Given the inconsistent weather, it is a good idea to check on events to note if they are canceled before you leave the house.

My car battery died on New Year’s Eve. It seems appropriate to start a new year with a new battery. The battery that died was the original one, five-and-a-half-years old. The new one will last three years, according to the warranty.

The Yiddish Book Center, located on the Hampshire College campus, will present a film, “East Endings,” Sun., Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. Admission is charged. For tickets visit: www.yiddishbookcenter.org.

The ARHS Chorale, directed by Todd Fruth, will perform Mon., Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Amherst Woman’s Club, of which I am a member. The concert, which is free and open to the public,  will be at the club house on Triangle Street. Please note the early start time.

Wildwood Remembers, a lecture series, continues Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. with a talk on Irma McClaurin, Black Feminist Archivist and Memory Work: Giving Agency to the Silent Dr. Taelore Marsh and Rebecca Fricke will present the talk, which is free and open to the public.

The lecture will be held at Amherst Downtown, the UMass store at 108 N. Pleasant St. For those of a certain age, it used to be Augie’s.

Inquiring minds want to know: Why is “Payment declined?” I see these sentences in the junk file. Would you ever decline payment? However, I never open the emails so don’t know about declining? Has anyone ever opened the file?
