
Garden report: the day lilies, calendula and coreopsis have bloomed. I planted broccoli and egg plant starts that were leftover at Sunset Farm. I have little success with those two plants. However, hope is a major component of gardening.
I saw a woodchuck in my yard. It was big, hairy, low to the ground and can move very quickly.

Rebecca Cruzon of Amherst will be one of 120 voices singing in the Berkshire Choral International concert Sat., June 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tillis Performance Hall at the Bromery Arts Center, UMass, according to an email she sent.
Tickets are available at the door.

Amherst will hold its fireworks on Thursday, July 3 on the lawn outside McGuirk Stadium on the UMass campus. The Amherst Community Band performs and there will be food vendors.
The annual South Amherst Fourth of July parade will be held on Friday, July 4. Registration stars at 9:30 a.m. and the parade steps off at 10 a.m, circling Fiddler’s Green twice. The South Amherst Thursday Club, of which I am a member, leads the parade with our banner.
There are games, bike and foot races, free watermelon, lemon and ice cream. Donations are welcome.
While it’s held in South Amherst, all are welcome.

The League of Women Voters, of which I am a member, is collecting books for its annual Book Sale. Items can be dropped off at the Fort River Elementary School from July 5-15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
No moldy or tattered books, no magazines, textbooks or popular self-help books. Volunteers are welcome to sort books.
The sale itself begins July 25.

The New England Weavers Seminar at Westfield State University includes a free exhibit open July 11 from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 -11:30 a.m. Seminars are also scheduled for which there is a fee, according to an email from Diane Roeder.
