John Margarian of Amherst sent his entry to the postcard contest with a card of Iceland that he picked up at Hastings.

I saw the virtual Merry Maple ceremony on Amherst Media and YouTube. The added features of storytelling, dance and singing were great. However, the poem was the best, very creative and well done. I think every store was mentioned. Many thanks to Santa, aka Dave Sullivan, Northwest district attorney, for joining the festivities.

Orchard Valley has its own version of the Merry Maple with an evergreen tree decorated with ornaments from neighbors. It’s located at the entrance to Markert’s Pond on Pondview Drive.

Amherst attorney Michael Serduck shared a story with me while masked in a parking lot. (We were socially distanced.) His office is in the Red Barn on Main Street. He was there participating in a Zoom trial. However, when the train passed by, proceedings had to stop because of the noise. He said the trains pass by twice a day and he informs a judge of the schedule.
