The protest in Amherst (Dec. 9) at TD Bank and Bank of America, telling the banks to stop funding the fossil fuel industry, was part of a national movement to “Stop the Money Pipeline.”

The fossil fuel companies, whose business is fueling the climate crisis, are not going to respond to demands to change their business. So we are targeting the large banks, insurance companies, and asset managers that fund and insure them, and asking customers to move their money to local banks.

However, the locked doors we encountered that day speak loudly. And the statement you cite from TD Bank is pure greenwashing; they plan to clean up their own operations (maybe heat their buildings with clean energy?) while they continue to invest millions in pipelines, drilling and fracking.

We all need to move our money. And hit the streets. We’ll be back.
