DEERFIELD — One man is dead after an early morning motor vehicle crash in Deerfield.
The man, whom authorities have not identified, was driving down Lower Road Monday at around 4:40 a.m. when his vehicle left the road, collided with a utility pole and caught fire, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
The man was pronounced dead after being taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Deerfield Police, the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
The official cause of death, which has yet to be determined, will be handled by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The district attorney’s office stated that no more information would be released until Tuesday. Deerfield police declined to provide any more information Monday.
