AMHERST — Threats made toward a private security guard at a North Amherst apartment complex early Friday morning are leading to a criminal charge being brought against a New Hampshire man, according to Amherst Police.

Police were called to Townehouse Apartments, 50 Meadow St., at 1:49 a.m. after a 66-year-old Peterborough man said he would run the security officer over with his vehicle, said Detective Marcus Humber.

The guard had approached the vehicle because it was illegally parked in a space reserved for a resident and needed to be moved.

The suspect then turned on the vehicle and drove it to within a foot of the guard, and continued to rev the engine as if he intended to hit the guard, Humber said.

The suspect, who fled the scene, is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, Humber said.
