Monday, Jan. 19 is a holiday, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The post office, banks, schools and town offices will be closed.

Rep. Mindy Domb is again sponsoring a food drive to honor Martin Luther King and to benefit the Amherst Survival Center on Monday, Jan. 19. Bring nonperishable food, diapers and hygiene items to the center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. She wrote that over 3,700 pounds were donated last year and she would like to top that number. You don’t have to wait until Monday, donations are now being collected at Senior Center, Jones Library, Amherst Chamber of Commerce office. Thanks.

The South Amherst Congregational Church is holding its comfort food-to-go sale Saturday, Jan. 24 with pint packages of meat and vegetarian chili, clam chowder and tricky pickles. Mac and cheese is 7 ounces.  Pick up is between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

If anyone who has the Fourth of July/South Amherst signs that were on the Common last summer please return them to the Munson Memorial Library. Employment opportunity-culvert assessor. The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission is looking for interns for 10 weeks during the spring, summer and fall. Pay is $20 an hour and work is 10-40 hours per week. Training is provided. Visit:pvpc.org for details. Culverts were a major discussion item at the monthly coffee with Town Manager Paul Bockleman at Atkins last week. About 1,500 culverts exist in Amherst. Who knew?
