Jan. 6 is the Feast of the Three Kings, Dia de Los Reyes Margos, a major holiday for Hispanic, Spanish and Latin cultures. Holiday greetings to all our friends and neighbors who celebrate the Feast.
Jan. 6 is also Twelfth Night, the last of the twelve days of Christmas.
Jan. 7 is the celebration of Christmas for those of the Orthodox Church. The Julian calendar is used for Orthodox churches, hence the date difference.

Fauna report: five deer, children and adults, went through the backyards of the houses on Deepwoods Drive that abut my backyard Sunday morning around 11:30 a.m. It was very impressive. The deer just ambled by, didn’t run. I have a photo, willing to share.
I had a single deer in my backyard that came right up the house about three years ago in the fall. It visited several days in a row.

Correction: the first name of Mr. Bromery is Dennis, not the name I used in last week’s column, even thought it had the same first initial. Apologies to Dennis Bromery.

Expert birder Dan Ziomek of Amherst will lead an owl prowl Saturday, Jan. 3 from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Hitchcock Center for the Environment. You can look for the Great-horned owl. The advice in the press release was to dress “super duper warmly.” I would agree. There is a fee. For information visit: www.hitchcockcenter.org.

Good news: daylight increases by a minute a day. By the end of January, the increase should be about an hour. Something to look forward to.
