Garden report — the Thanksgiving cactus had beautiful pink blossoms on Thursday.

The rhododendron leaves are good barometers of temperature. The leaves curl when it is really cold. I looked out the window one day and they were curled. Yes, it was really cold that day.

The Amherst Winter Farmer’s Market will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bangs Community Center until Dec. 20. Fresh produce will be available.

In addition, the Friends of the Amherst Senior Center will have a Jewelry Pop Up Sale at the market Dec. 6. According to an email from the friends, the sale includes estate jewelry, lovely handbags, colorful scarves and many bargain items perfect for season. Donations from the sale support the various programs of the Amherst Senior Center.

Volunteer pricing in effect, just like the September pop up sale.

Now that we have begun the snow season, check events for cancellations before venturing out. Orchard Valley roads have been sprinkled with a pre-snow treatment. Thank you DPW, not that I am planning to go anywhere if there is plowable snow.

Note to self: avoid the corner of Amity and University drives. Construction is underway for the rotary.
