E-Town Jazz - The Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton (PACE) presents a new jazz jam series on the first and third Fridays of the month, starting Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. There'll be a full rhythm section to sit in with and occasional special guests so come to play or just to listen. Amherst College - The Amherst College jazz faculty performs fresh takes on some jazz classics and a new composition by Eugene Uman Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center. The concert, which is free and open to the public, features Uman on piano; Bruce Diehl and Gary Smulyan, saxophones; Geoff Cunningham, trumpet; Neal Melley, trombone; Joe Belmont, guitar; David Picchi, bass; Ann Maggs, vocals; and Claire Arenius, drums.

Big band - The Jeff Holmes Big Band performs contemporary big-band jazz Sunday at 8 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 Park St. in Belchertown. $12 general admission, $6 students and seniors.
