Network Amherst: The Lehrer Report

Garden report: The tomatoes are over in my garden. I usually have them until late September, but all the leaves turned brown and quit. They were great when they were picked. The eggplant, basil, celery and broccoli are still going, however.

The lisianthus has bloomed. The New England aster and the canna lily are in bud. The pansies came back and are in bloom. The zinnias, marigolds, straw flowers, statice and salvia have been very colorful. Now it's time to plant some mums and the daffodils for the town's 250th anniversary. Three are three varieties at the Hadley Garden Center that will bloom next May.

I had the good fortune to have a private tour of the Sol Lewitt exhibit that is being installed on three floors at Mass MoCa. It opens Nov. 16 and is worth seeing. The colors and designs are incredible. Such imagination.

Besides Mass MoCa, I also saw the exhibits at the Clark Art Institute, the Wadsworth Athenaeum, the Williams College Art Museum, which has a Sol Lewitt in the stairwell, and the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College. I did go to some movies, made pesto and froze lots of tomatoes and peppers.
