Fire Calls

* A neighbor put out a cooking oil fire on a stove at a Montague Road residence Aug. 25 at 10:14 p.m.
* Firefighters assisted the Northampton Fire Department with a fire at a Hawley Street residence Aug. 26 at 4:24 a.m.
* Oily rags smoldering in a pail at a Lessey Street residence were extinguished with a garden hose Aug. 26 at 6:49 p.m.
* Three twigs were found smoldering on Kellogg Avenue after a report of children starting a fire Aug. 29 at 5:25 p.m. There was no fire or children.
* A broken branch broke a sprinkler pipe that spewed water at the UMass Campus Center Garage, Aug. 30 at 7:56 a.m.
* Power was shut off to an oil burner that had extensive soot buildup and caused an odor at a Cosby Avenue residence Aug. 30 at 11:40 P.M.
* Absorbent material was used to clean up gasoline that spilled on Main Street Aug. 27 at 9:50 p.m.
* A sump pump was left to remove water from a Webster Court basement Aug. 28 at 10:25 a.m.
* No cause could be found for the report of an odor at Main Street Sept. 1 at 10:47 p.m.
* Alarms were sounded by: malfunctioning smoke detectors at a Main Street residence Aug. 27 at 9:11 p.m.; painters at the Kirby Theater Amherst College, Aug. 28 at 8:14 a.m.; working on a turbine at the UMass Central Heating Plant, Aug. 28 at 10:43 a.m.; overheated elevator motors at the Hampshire College library, Aug. 28 at 12:59 p.m.; a malfunctioning carbon monoxide detector at a Baldwin Lane residence Sept. 1 at 4:31 a.m.; cooking smoke at a Greenleaves Drive residence Sept. 1 at 9:30 a.m.; spray paint at a North Pleasant Street fraternity Sept.. 1 at 10:58 p.m.
* Alarms sounded for no reason at Morgan Hall, Amherst College, Aug. 26 at 2:20 a.m.; at Valentine Hall, Amherst College, Aug. 26 at 5:37 p.m.; at the Bangs Center Aug. 27 at 6:57 a.m.; at a North Pleasant Street fraternity Aug. 28 at 11:26 p.m.; at Applewood Aug. 29 at 8:30 a.m.; at the Atkins Water Treatment Plant Sept. 2 at 5:57 a.m.; and at the Davenport Squash Court, Amherst College, Sept. 2 at 6:27 a.m.
There were 83 ambulance runs and 28 fire calls between Aug. 26 and Sept. 2.
