Chanukah greetings to all our Jewish friends and neighbors. The holiday begins at sundown Dec. 7 and runs until Dec. 15.

Susan Mulholland of Leverett sent me an email about the Leverett Crafts and Arts Holiday Sale Dec. 2-3 and Dec. 9-10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Many local artisans will have items for sale. The sale is at 13 Montague Road in Leverett.

Archer Mayor, who is a mystery writer based in Vermont, sent me an email, not a group mailing, just to me! I have read many of his books that include locations we recognize. He has had his detective, Joe Gunther, visit Leverett or Chicopee.

He reports that the Gunther books are seriously being considered for a television series. That is good news.

When he has spoken at the Odyssey Book Shop (which he’s done several times), he said he keeps the physical description of Joe limited so people can imagine him on his own, a sort of Everyman. Having a real person portray Joe Gunther will be interesting, to see if he meets our imagination.

Bonnie Isman of Amherst sent me news about a free program the League of Women Voters (of which I am a member) is hosting.

Jennifer Moyston, the town’s assistant director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, will talk about the roles and responsibilities of the town in DEI and community engagement on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

In addition to her work with the town’s boards and committees, Moyston serves on the board of the Amherst Survival Center, the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce Equity Task Force, the board of Community Action of Pioneer Valley and Hilltown Community Health Centers. Register at lwvamherst.org.

The Emily Dickinson Museum will celebrate the poet’s birthday with a free open house Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. with tours, crafts, music, cider and gingerbread cookies. Space is limited. Register at emilydickinsonmuseum.org.

It’s birthday 193, which requires many candles — with the option to use number candles one, nine and three.
